Instagram is testing a new messaging app

Instagram, the most popular social network for sharing photos, today has started testing Direct, a new messaging app that takes the place of the function to send private messages inside the main app in various countries. Direct will also be available for Android and iOS devices in Italy, as well as in Chile, Israel, Portugal and Turkey. Once installed it will work exactly like the direct messages section on Instagram, so you can send text messages, photos, videos or stories that disappear after viewing to your Instagram friends.

Although this is only a test, it is possible that Instagram will decide in the future to make it available to everyone, like Facebook – which owns Instagram – has already done in the past with Messenger, which became an autonomous app in 2014. The creation of a special app for exchanging messages also by Instagram is probably due to the increasing growth of users of messaging apps in recent times, starting with WhatsApp, also owned by Facebook.
