Qualcomm will introduce a new custom ARM architecture next year that will compete with Intel processors. But just today, Intel has defined its roadmap to 2025, renaming its process nodes and showing what each generation will look like. One of these, called Intel 20A, will be used by Qualcomm.
Intel 20A promises to be revolutionary, the company states that it will take us into the age of angstroms, so process nodes will be measured in angstroms, rather than nanometers. The move might seem surprising, given that Qualcomm and Intel have been competitors for a long time.
Lately, it appears that in many areas Qualcomm is winning or gaining ground, while Intel attempted to make mobile chips and failed and later had to give up its attempts to make 5G modems for smartphones. We certainly expect great things for the collaboration of these two technology pillars, which unite the world of smartphones and that of computers.
