The Cyberlayman editorial team tests the JJRC X7 drone, which offers the user many advanced features, such as GPS and brushless motors, but which at the same time is suitable for becoming familiar with flying, thanks to an absolutely affordable price. Here's how our flight test went.
The design of this JJRC X7 recalls the lines of the latest DJI drones, such as Mavic Air or Mavic Pro. Of course it is very different from these, if only because it is a non-foldable drone. The set-up, however, is still low and, just to understand, far from the first DJI Phantoms with the much higher landing gear. It weighs just over 400 grams and has dimensions of 23.70 x 27.10 x 7.60 cm.
The battery is inserted from the rear of the drone, with a rather convenient quick coupling and release system, which keeps it firmly in place, without danger of it being released during flight.
On the front, however, the cameras are positioned, also in a position similar to those present on the Mavic. Unfortunately, it is not stabilized on any axis, as there is no gimbal.
The result, as we will see later, is a sufficient image quality, but unfortunately particularly moved, unless you keep the drone completely still in the air.
The four propellers are not self-tightening, which is why we invite you to screw them properly before any flight. The small final “cappelletto” must be screwed on with care and attention, otherwise the risk is to lose the propeller in flight, with the consequent crash of the drone.
The real peculiarity of the drone are the four motors, brushless, therefore brushless, able to make the drone particularly agile in flight, and to fly even for many consecutive minutes, without running the risk of overheating the motors and ruining the aircraft. Brushless motors also means greater longevity of the motor itself, as well as having a lower need for maintenance.
Among other exceptional features, also the GPS system, which allows the quadcopter to remain in stable flight over a point, as well as to return it to the base automatically in the event of any anomaly, or when the return to base button is pressed. automatic.
The integrated GPS system works really well: during our tests we repeatedly recalled the drone to the base, and it always landed in the same starting point, one meter more, one meter less. Of course this is great news for newbies who start flying with this JJRC X7, not running the risk of losing it in case something goes wrong.
Of course, the drone is controlled with its own remote control, which according to the manufacturer ensures a flight range of 500 meters. We did not go this far during the tests, also because current regulations prevent it.
However, we managed to reach really acceptable distances, being able to drive the aircraft almost to the point of losing sight of it. This is, without a doubt, an excellent result, considering the price of the drone and the transmission technologies certainly not comparable to those of high-end drones.
The flight distance of 500 meters also becomes useless when coupled with the video transmission distance. The drone, in fact, allows FPV flight, with the camera that allows you to transmit images to the smartphone.
In this case the video transmission range is 200 meters. Also in this case we can testify to the veracity of this information, even if exceeding 100 meters the video begins to suffer from some slight lag. In any case, this is a data that can vary depending on the flight position, and any interference present in the flight area.
In terms of autonomy, the 2600 mAh removable battery offers a duration of about 23 minutes. To tell the truth, we have not reached such a minute: probably the flight time is a few minutes less. It is also true, however, that this figure is greatly affected by climatic conditions and the type of flight.
If you use the different advanced modes, such as the one that allows the drone to orbit in the air, or to follow a subject, the autonomy will suffer more, compared to a standard linear flight. Among the other flight modes there is also the waypoint, which allows you to fly in a totally automatic way, simply by selecting the points to touch on the map.
Do not miss the automatic take-off and landing, particularly useful for beginners, which works well, also in consideration of the low attitude of the drone, which manages to land without problems even in strong wind conditions.
The drone offers an absolutely satisfying colo experience, considering the brushless motors, and also on the GPS + GLONASS navigation system. All this is countered by a good camera, which unfortunately sins due to the lack of stabilization although capable of recording Full HD images.
In itself, the quality could also be acceptable in consideration of the low cost of the drone, but the absence of a gimbal makes the shooting particularly choppy, where a jello effect is not lacking. The camera can also be rotated 90 degrees, so you can decide what to shoot, whether to direct it more towards the horizon, or whether to choose to film more downwards.
This is a drone more suitable for static photographs, which in any case can also be useful for shooting some glimpses from above. From a multimedia point of view it is a drone for those who want to start getting familiar with the world of drones, even if in terms of technical characteristics it offers a very respectable equipment. As always, we leave the reader to judge the multimedia quality of the drone: in the video just above it is possible to appreciate some shots taken by the drone.
Conclusions
JJRC X7 is a drone that offers a truly advanced equipment, starting with the brushless motors, ending with the presence of GPS, which offers the user greater stability in flight, and greater safety, especially when losing orientation. and it is decided to have the drone return to the base in total autonomy.
From a multimedia point of view, like all drones in the same price range, it suffers from the lack of a mechanical gimbal, which would have ensured less blurry images. In any case, the value for money is absolutely in line with what the drone offers. Great for starting to fly, spending little, without giving up (except for the camera) to all that slew of technical features found on high-end drones.
On GearBest it has a price list of about 125 euros. You can buy it directly at this address .
