Home iPhonia iPhone Accessories ,,,,, Twelve South continues its research on common accessories which it reinterprets in an original way. After Journal, the case for iPhone Xr and AirSnap, a small cover for AirPods, here is Journal CaddySac, a system for carrying in order the small accessories that each of us carries with us when we have an iPhone or a Mac. CaddySac is, in fact, a of those things, like a phone case, which we all need and on which we arrange in an artisanal way but which in the version proposed by Twelve South transforms and takes on its own personality and unmistakable style.
The design and materials are what we have seen in the products of the Journal series. Outwardly, CaddySac looks like a leather-bound book, just like Journal cases for Mac and iPhone. The color is a classic sienna brown, the appearance is refined and the leather excellently tanned (although in our case with a couple of imperfections that went beyond the limits of a natural material). Once opened, CaddySac is equally well finished: it is upholstered in tweed style fabric with a series of elastic bands useful for holding objects.
On the one hand we find elastic bands with small slots, designed for cables, earphones, adapters and a pocket, a fabric that is always elastic, useful for SIM cards or SD cards; on the other side there are two longer elastics with buckle and velcro that can hold longer power supplies or cables. In the center, a fabric buttonhole can be used to hold a pen or an Apple Pencil if you have one. Once you have placed all your paraphernalia inside, you can close the “book” with a solid hinge.
We carried out a test to try to understand if Journal CaddySac really manages to accompany, keeping in order what we need for a trip and we must say that if the basic concept is good, some aspects are not entirely convincing. Inside the case there can certainly be several objects, but perhaps due to an excess of minimalism, Twelve South forces us to some adventures.

In our case, for example, we tried to place in the CaddySac the essential for a trip of a couple of days: AppeWatch charging cable, USB-C power supply cable, Lighting cable, power supply for MacBook 12 ″ Retina, an adapter for reading SD cards, some SD cards, a travel battery, a USB charger. The order was flawless, in contrast to the problems we've always had with stuffing this random stuff into a pocket of our purse, but closing the Journal CaddySac was pretty problematic.
In fact, the thickness is not sufficient for a power supply such as the small one for MacBook 12 ″ Retina and cables on the other side; you have to force to pull the hinges. Obviously, optimizing the arrangement (perhaps eliminating, in our case, the battery and moving the cables to the side of the power supply) is possible, but the fact remains that the thickness of the CaddySac appears a bit too narrow and it is essentially impossible to place inside it. a power supply without being forced to put something really minimal on the other side.
1 of 4 The thickness of the Journal CaddySac Compared to that of a MacBook 12 “Retina power supply The Journal CaddySac always close to a power supply Difficult to close the case …
The thickness when closed and at maximum extension of Journal CaddySac is in fact 4.5 cm, the power supply of our MacBook 12 ″ retina, plug included is about 4 cm. Probably half an inch more thick would have been enough and the TwelveSouth accessory would have been more functional without giving up being elegant. After all, since the hinges are bellows, the maximum thickness would have been reached only in specific cases.
We also point out that the two longer bands have a not too convincing grip. Placed inside a charger this tends to slide out, even if it is true that once the zipper is closed, due to the minimum thickness, it is difficult for it to go for a walk inside the Journal CaddySac.
In conclusion Journal CaddySac is an elegant and very well built object, designed with taste and useful for transporting small objects such as USB sticks, cables that are not too long, memory cards, or small chargers like the original iPhone without these going away. around the bag. If this is your need on the market you will not find anything equally well finished and so original. If, on the other hand, you need something that can accommodate a certain number of accessories, perhaps a battery and a power supply for a MacBook, know that you will have to make some compromises.
Journal CaddySac is on sale on the Twelve South website for $ 89.99 (plus shipping costs and any taxes). Also available is the slightly smaller BookBook CaddySac which costs $ 49.99.
