The world of Chinese notebooks has certainly grown over the years, and if on the one hand they still offer low cost peripherals, on the other hand there are manufacturers who have certainly raised the bar, offering laptops with more advanced technical features. KUU Laitnin G3 is of this opinion: it is a notebook with AMD Ryzen 5 4600H processor sold at an excellent price. Here's what we like, and what we don't.
Aesthetics
Let's start, first of all, with aesthetics. The external factor has always been to the advantage of these Chinese-born laptops, and this KUU G3 is no exception. On the contrary. On an aesthetic level, it is possible to make a comparison with Apple's Macbook Pro, even if the materials are certainly not as precious as those of Apple.
At first glance, however, the laptop looks very good and, unlike many other Chinese notebooks, it manages to pass the test of opening with one hand. Where competitors tend to rise fully when the lid is opened, it can be more stable on the table, allowing the user to open it with one hand.
Even when open, the aesthetics remain absolutely good. The bezels are absolutely thin, even if our unit presents them in a silver color, like the rest of the case, rather than black as they are proposed in all renderings visible on the net.
The keyboard is a Full size, complete with a numeric keypad positioned on the right side. It is of course “QWERTY”, although it does not have accented letters and symbols. It will certainly not be a problem for those accustomed to writing; vice versa it will be advisable to use the stickers present in the package, which allow you to indicate accented letters and symbols.
From an aesthetic point of view, therefore, we did not detect any critical issues. If we were to find something to laugh we could indicate the weight of 1.8 kg. To consider, however, that we are always talking about a 15.6 inch, therefore a really large notebook.
Functionality
Even before seeing the technical characteristics of this laptop, we would like to focus on some functions, which prove to be decisive for those who buy. Let's start with the keyboard. Promoted. Unlike other low cost Chinese, which often offer keyboards that are not up to par, at the limits of usability, this KUU G3 certainly does not suffer from the problem.
The keyboard turns out to be absolutely comfortable, with a medium key travel, which responds really well. To test it thoroughly we are writing this article from the same laptop under test, and in fact the degree of typing error is really reduced to a minimum, and almost always linked to the use of the directional arrows, which in fact are not detached from the other keys, as well as the Shift key turns out to be slightly undersized compared to other keyboards. Moreover, the keyboard has a backlight, so it will be perfectly usable even in rooms without lighting.
As for the trackpad, it's really big, immense. Operation is discreet, not great. It is used without problems, and even the gestures work perfectly, both as regards the scrolling of the pages, and as regards the quick functions, for the passage from one to the other tab, or to go back to the page back while browsing. web. Where it fails, however, is in accuracy. If we try to move the cursor to an exact point on the screen, for example to highlight a letter or a word, we realize that the trackpad is not 100% accurate and fluid.
To be honest, this is a problem we see in many laptops; will be that accustomed to Apple's trackpad, it is difficult to find something that is actually comparable.
This is why we prefer, even in this case, to get help from an external mouse, even if for the record, we confirm that the laptop is absolutely usable with the built-in trackpad. If we were to assign a vote only to the latter, just to be clear, we would give a seven and a half.
KUU G3 is equipped with Touch ID. Too bad that, at least for our unit, it doesn't work properly. When turning on the laptop we were never able to access Windows without having to tap it again.
Typically, laptops with a fingerprint reader allow you to turn on the laptop and, at the same time, recognize the user, so as not to block him on the next PIN screen. During our use we have never been able to access in this way, so much so that we have the doubt that, in reality, it is not really possible to access in this way.
Instead, on the next login screen, we were able to authenticate with the fingerprint, about 50% of the time. Basically, every two attempts only one is successful, but in some cases the system asked us to enter the PIN, because the fingerprint was not detected correctly. We have tried several times to replace the finger, to set the sensor again, but the result has remained unchanged.
Another important aspect, especially in this period, is the front chamber. Here, really, there is no denying it. Passed. After all, the information sheet is clear: 1 MP. You will be able to make video conferences, but at poor quality, even when the room is well lit. Nothing else to say.
Technical characteristics
The technical data sheet is what attracts most of this product. It is not, in fact, the classic low cost without substance. KUU Laitnin G3, in fact, flexes its muscles, always remembering that it is a laptop, and not a desktop PC.
Inside it offers the AMD Ryzen 5 4600H CPU, which certainly guarantees higher performance when it comes to productivity, but which also allows you to play with good results, although certainly not at the maximum levels.
The laptop is equipped with a 15.6 inch screen with a resolution of 1920 × 1080 , not very bright, but good workmanship, certainly able to allow viewing of quality multimedia content, but which performs well at any time of the day. It is not shiny, and therefore the laptop can also be used outdoors, in very strong sunlight.
Among other features, the screen supports 180 ° angle adjustment. Thanks also to its technical characteristics, it is able to run 4K video, even if the resolution of the monitor is not this, and offers a 4K output to project the PC on a TV.
In terms of connectivity, two USB-C ports, with the laptop charging function with the 87W charger included in the package, as well as two full size 3.0 USB ports. A 3.5 mm input for headphones or external speakers closes the circle.
Inside there are, then, 8 GB of RAM and a 512 GB SSD memory, with good results in read writing speed texts, which we indicate below.
How it behaves
Naturally, with these technical characteristics we expected maximum fluidity during the productivity phase. And indeed, this KUU G3 allows you to work without any problems. You can manage mail, Office package, web browsing without the slightest lag. It could not be otherwise, both for the processor, and for the support of 8 GB RAM and the integrated SSD.
As far as the gaming department is concerned, we were able to start different types of games. From Fortnite to Rocket League, passing through the classic Asphalt 9 and more. All the games tested are started correctly, although certainly the performance was not very high.
Fortnite, as well as Rocket League, are perfectly playable, even if the graphic detail is not high. Some grainy contours, some FPS drops, but all in all this KUU G3 also allows you to play. If you are hardcore, of course, this is not the best, but for the more casual you will be able to manage most of the library.
Note that the PC tends to heat up, especially in heavier operations, just like running 3D games. It must be said that the hot month we are in does not make things easy, and on many occasions we have heard the fan even when simply using the word. However, a refrigerated environment, such as an air-conditioned room, is enough to completely silence the two fans.
Yes, it is compatible with Windows 11
On the sidelines of the test, we also tried to install the Windows 11 preview. Absolutely no problem. They did not notice any drop in performance, and everything worked correctly, net of some bugs due to the operating system not yet released.
Conclusions
This KUU G3 is, undoubtedly, a laptop of Chinese origin which, however, distances itself from other low cost competitors. It does not cost very little, but the price is right considering the hardware equipment, starting with the processor, which is in fact the most precious element of the entire laptop. Too bad that the fingerprint sensor isn't perfect, and you struggle a bit to recognize your finger. It is a notebook that will be able to satisfy 100% who will use it for work, but it is also a good ally for mid-range gaming.
