Lenovo P8 Tablet Review: At this price it doesn't get any better

Home Hi-Tech Android World ,,,,, Is it possible to buy a high-performance tablet by spending just over 100 euros ? In all honesty, before testing Lenovo P8, we would have answered negatively. This is why we changed our mind, after testing this absolutely low cost tablet, which does not seem to have any weaknesses, quite the contrary.

Lenovo P8 is an 8-inch tablet: difficult, if not impossible, to find it in Italy through known channels. We must turn, then, to the import market, but considering the negligible amount required, it is a really good choice. The sales package does not reserve any particular surprises, and beyond the tablet itself, it does not offer covers, films, or earphones. There is only the charging cable and the various manuals.

It doesn't matter, though, as the Lenovo P8 itself is worth absolutely everything it costs. Aesthetically it is a very pleasant tablet, with well-optimized bezels, and a rather thin black border that surrounds the display. The materials are plastic and, probably, cheap, but the selling price certainly did not allow the use of aluminum.

In any case, it holds well in the hand, presents no criticalities, and only when it is pressed with particular force does it tend to present some creaking. In daily use it does not look bad with most of the tablets on the market, even when compared with others of a higher price range.

Aesthetically to be promoted with flying colors, it boasts contained dimensions and weight, equal to 20.80 x 12.30 x 0.88 cm, with a weight of 326 grams. It is also used well for prolonged times, it does not heat up and maintains high performance, also thanks to a technical data sheet that far exceeds the list price.

Lenovo P8 is equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 Octa Core processor at 2.0GHz , assisted by a GPU Adreno 506 and well 3 GB of RAM . The 8-inch display is good, with 1920 x 1200 resolution and a pixel density of 283 ppi. Overall it is an excellent display, always considering the price range of just over 100 euros: it is really impossible to find better. It is very bright and reacts very well to touches, with no lag.

The internal memory is tight, only 16 GB . However, there is also a remedy for this, because the tablet supports micro SD up to 128 GB , with the possibility of transferring apps and data to the external memory, which is read by the device as main memory. During our tests we tried to move any installed app or game to this memory. Obviously, the advice is to have a good MicroSD, to allow apps and games to run smoothly.

To tell the truth, we approached the review of this tablet without any particular pretensions, yet it surprised us from all points of view. We tried to fill the memory (the external one) with apps and games of various kinds. From Amazon to Facebook, from Super Mario Run to Clash Royale, from Animal Crossing Pocket Camp to Real Racing 3.

At the first start, probably due to the loading times from MicroSD, you have to wait a few more seconds, but once started, all the games responded perfectly. We tried to catch the tablet in error, but without success: the loading times of the games and the heaviest apps are not lightning fast, but after a few moments all the apps work very well.

And then, in an attempt to find the weak point at all costs, as if it were a challenge, we tried to install Spotify to listen to some songs. We assumed a low volume or in any case of poor quality, and instead the result was absolutely excellent.

The audio, with support for Dolby optimizations , comes from the two speakers placed on the upper and lower frames of the device: the volume is absolutely good, on average high, with a clean sound that would also amaze on bands higher price.

Tired of looking for the weak point, we tried to leave the tablet on all night, obviously on stand by, but with push notifications, in an attempt to catch it in difficulty with draning battery phenomena: not even for a joke, the next day Lenovo P8 only showed a minus 4% charge.

The 4250mAh battery holds up well, on average, and allows you to enjoy video games and apps all day long. The only difficulty encountered was in opening the MicroSD compartment, hard enough, but nothing that could obviously affect the quality of the product described so far.

Still, to necessarily want to find the “cons”, we could talk about the operating system, based on Android 6, which is unlikely to be updated. Even in this case, however, it is a configuration that works very well on this tablet, with a modern UI and comparable to that of Android 7, or later, considering that from Marshmallow to date there have been no major changes.

And what about the camera department. Certainly standard, with an 8MP camera on the back and a 5MP camera on the front. It is certainly not the device to use as the main camera (after all it is a tablet), but even in this case the photos taken by the tablet look much better than any expectation. The front one is just for some selfies, but with the rear one you can get some interesting shots, especially in optimal light conditions. Here is a small gallery:

Conclusions

You won't feel that premium feel of an iPad Mini in your hand, nor will the speed of execution of heavier games be comparable to a top of the range, but the Lenovo P8 is simply the best tablet at this price point. Aesthetically appreciable, with clean lines, technically valid and performing, with a first-rate audio department, it is crushed at any use and everything that is asked to do, is performed in the best way. Too bad for the 16 GB internal memory, a problem that can be circumvented with a good MicroSD.

On GearBest it costs about 117 euros . An absolutely recommended purchase.
