Home CasaVerdeSmart ,,,,, There are so many security cameras available on the market today. Logitech has long presented its Circle 2, one of the most original indoor and outdoor cameras. Not only for the design of the hardware, but also for the software, which represents a quid pluris, thanks to a diary of video events that is easy and intuitive to consult, however different from that of the competitors. Here's how Circle 2 works.
How it's done
Let's start with aesthetics first. Circle 2 is among the most beautiful, original and discreet security cameras. It is similar to a small ball, completely covered with white plastic, except for the completely black front. The version we are testing, the one with integrated battery, is made up of two different pieces. The first, where the eye of the camera insists, and a second, the battery.
The fact that it can be powered wirelessly is absolutely an added value: you take the camera and place it in any corner of the house. Moreover, the absolutely modern and minimal design makes the Circle 2 a real piece of furniture. On the back there is only a small housing for the bracket, to hang the camera on the wall, in addition to the MicroUSB input for charging.
In terms of design, without a shadow of a doubt, Logitech's Circle 2 is the favorite: however, the possibility of using it wirelessly makes it even more versatile.
Technical features
The version we tested, offers Full HD video features up to 1080p, compatible with Wi-Fi at 2.4 and 5 GHz, glass lens with a wide 180 ° field of view, automatic night vision up to 4.5 m (15 feet), digital zoom and built-in speaker and microphone for two-way communication. Of course, it offers motion detection and field of view functions, so that the user can be notified via push notifications on the smartphone, as soon as the eye of the camera registers some movement. The Circle 2 features a 6400mAh lithium-ion rechargeable battery, and offers standard-based security encrypted with TLS / AES / HTTPS, with adjustable pan and tilt capabilities. The camera can record in resolutions up to 1080p, even if the default resolution is 720, to make the video feed wirelessly smoother and take up less space on the cloud.
Software
If the camera, at a hardware and aesthetic level, is certainly among the best available on the market, with the truly ingenious external battery solution, it is also at the software level that Circle 2 shows a difference compared to its competitors. It is possible to view the video feed via the iOS, Android app, or via the web; the application is designed to offer the user a daily diary of what happened at home, and what the camera has framed. In addition to viewing the feed in real time, it is also possible to create an automatic video of what happened in the previous 24 hours.
Using small bubbles on the right side of the screen, it is possible to pass from one day to another, from one event to another. Moreover, with every Circle 2 Logitech gives a 24-hour cloud subscription plan, expandable for a monthly fee.
Circle 2 is compatible with HomeKit (currently only model with cable) and even with Google Assistant: it will be possible to ask the assistant to view the feed of one of the cameras installed in the house on the TV.
Other features of the software concern smart alerts: it is possible to customize the frequency or sensitivity of alerts directly from the Circle app, being able to set advanced event filters, which identify and record the relevant movements to be able to find them easily and cover only the most interesting ones.
As already mentioned, the camera offers unlimited live video surveillance streaming in Full HD quality at 1080p (720p and 360p resolutions are also available based on bandwidth requirements).
Again, thanks to localization, Circle 2 knows when to activate or deactivate alerts: as soon as the user leaves home, it will start receiving notifications, while Circle 2 will stop sending them when they return home.
Conclusions
Circle 2 is among the best video surveillance cameras. Not only from an aesthetic point of view, but also from a functional one, thanks to an intuitive and easy-to-use application, which displays an up-to-date and easy-to-consult event diary. Compatible with HomeKit (currently wired version only), Google Assistant and Alexa, Circle 2 is really smart. It resists rain, so it can also be used outdoors, and thanks to the built-in battery it is among the most versatile peripherals ever.
On Amazon, for Black Friday, it is discounted: 168 euros for the wireless model, 199 euros for the wireless model with battery, 129 euros for the variant with cable compatible with Homekit.
