Many Pixel 3s are experiencing serious problems

Google is no stranger to hardware problems on its smartphones. The Nexus 6P, which Google co-created with Huawei, is one of the best-known phones for after-sales issues that have essentially stalled the device.

Now, users around the world are reporting that many of their Google Pixel 3s have become “bricks”. Threads on Google’s problem tracker, support forums, and Reddit show that many Pixel 3 owners have similar issues with each other.

Essentially, owners find their Pixels stuck in “emergency download mode”, also known as EDL mode. EDL mode is a Qualcomm-related type of reset, suggesting that the problem may be related to Qualcomm hardware inside the phone.

Unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to be a way for Google Pixel 3 users to get out of EDL mode. Restarting the phone doesn’t change anything, even the more technical methods that are usually reserved for flash ROMs and the like don’t work.
