We are preparing for the end of the year and, as usual, the sums are drawn on all fronts. Thanks to the data of the Observatory on Communications shared by the Authority for Communications , we have the opportunity to have an overview of the state of the market of operators in Italy.
According to the data just shared, which are updated in September 2021, WindTre is the mobile operator with the highest market share (approximately 27% ) for SIM activated by individual private and corporate users. Followed by TIM with 25.7% , Vodafone with 23.3% and Iliad with 10.7% . The latter recorded a growth of 1.7% compared to last year.
Overall, the mobile market recorded a slight growth compared to last year: active Human SIMs are 78 million in Italy, with an increase of approximately 150,000 units compared to last year.
Going instead to consider the fixed line market, TIM is the largest operator with 42.4% of market share, followed by Vodafone at 16.5%, Fastweb with 14.9% and by WindTre with 14.1% .
Overall, the growth of new generation fixed lines was also confirmed, with a progressive abandonment (approximately – 50% ) of the lines in copper compared to 4 years ago. Consequently, a growth in internet traffic was recorded, equal to 21% , compared to last year.
The same applies to network performance , lines with speeds equal to or greater than 30 Mbps have now reached 75% of the overall broadband lines, while the portion of those with performances above 100 Mbps increased from 16.5% to 59.4% of the total .
