Meross Review Smart Wi-Fi LED Bulb Compatible Homekit, Alexa, Google

There are many colored bulbs with Wi-Fi connection but it is very difficult to find Homekit compatible ones at an affordable price. In this the offers of Meross which produces lamps, actuators, switches and a lot of accessories for home automation, is almost impossible to overcome also because it very often offers its products in kits of 2 or 4 pieces with additional discounts compared to the single product,

If you have read our reviews you know that we are generally not in favor of populating the home with dozens and dozens of home automation products with Wi-Fi that clog our already “besieged” routers but if you have a small house and the need to equip yourself with a small number of peripherals even Wi-Fi solutions can be interesting especially if they allow you to maintain both good quality and even more so if the quality / price ratio is very high.

Packaging

The package carefully lists the characteristics of the bulbs such as luminous power and annual consumption. Inside we find the two bulbs, the manual (however, there is no Italian this time) and a booklet on Homekit with the two QR codes glued on top for inclusion in the Apple home automation system.

Installation

Testing a pair of light bulbs is actually a very simple operation and even in this case, if we already have a Homekit infrastructure or an Alexa or Google smart speaker, installation is a matter of minutes: just start the Meross application and get help in the configuration: in the case of Alexa you can download the skill and synchronize everything. We have also seen it in full in the review of the Meross bedside lamp.

For those who have Homekit the procedure is even simpler: on each lamp is attached the sticker with the code necessary for inclusion in their home automation network. However, we advise you to keep the original booklet or to write down / photograph the code of each lamp because if you install it, as we did, inside a closed lamp holder you cannot start the operation.

Once you have included the lamp or lamps, you can insert them in your automations or in your scenarios. Meross currently does not have adaptive lighting technology that adjusts the color temperature according to the time of day. However, you can make up for it with other non-apple home automation controls by programming with the skills or automations that the light passes from the most neutral or cold shades of the day to the warmest ones (2700 ° K) of the evening. Let's see below how effective this can be.

At work

To make a very small experiment we inserted the two bulbs inside a single opaque glass lamp placed in a warm light kitchen (modern LEDs that emulate incandescent lights) to verify two things: if the overall brightness in lumens was actually that of 810 (previous lamps had the same lumens, 9 W and 60 Watt equivalent), if the colors of the LEDs were solid enough to create two distinct strokes of color and if the lamps were able to create a warm “natural” light ”Without resorting to a fake orange or a neutral without being too cold.

We must say that photos in hand, and with the obvious approximations of the exposure balance between lights and shadows, that the results are excellent and that the two lamps, as well as being easily programmable both with the Home screens and with the interviews with the voice of Siri and Alexa are a great tool for creating plays of light, brush strokes and backgrounds even when placed closely together.

As we said, the colors are very solid and can be compared to those of the Meross lamp we tried in recent days even if obviously the diaphanous effect here is due to a frosted glass cap.

We experienced the integration with Alexa by bridging with the Meross App: in this case Homekit passed the Wi-Fi connection information to Alexa and the Meross Skin did the rest.

Since we were there we also experimented with the Homekit grouping option: just assign a name to the pair of bulbs and they will turn on, turn off and change color in unison but always with the possibility of modulating the temperature and nuance of the sub-components: the two original bulbs.

About 800 Lumens Install them in pairs Solid colors That resist behind the screen Let's increase the brightness for a “halo” effect We mix color with neutral light Warm wall effect on the back Light at 2700 ° K compared with double neutral light We reconstruct the 2700 ° K also on the double lamp

Conclusions

Very easy to install especially with Homekit, solid colors and excellent integration in voice-controlled home automation systems. To make them even more versatile it would take a few more lumens but it is excellent the possibility of using them also for lighting at various levels of white without using tricks with approximate shades. Obviously if what you need is a touch of color in particular scenes, here you have a wide range and an excellent response to the colors you choose from the panel.

The choice of Wi-Fi connectivity allows excellent flexibility of installation but on the other hand, as already mentioned at the beginning, it is not recommended to install it in a huge park of light bulbs in a large apartment or villa. The nameplate data is support IEEE 802.11 b / g / n, 2.4GHz and security 64/128 bit WEP, WPA-PSK / WPA2-PSK.

Pro

Good range of colors and excellent control from the color wheels on smartphones, easy to install, good quality / price ratio, no need for specialized hubs, prompt response from the meross App and through Homekit.

Versus

Not suitable for lighting an entire room even in pairs.

Price to the public

The pair of bulbs is normally offered on Amazon for 32 Euros, in line with competitor products that do not have homekits. It is possible to find them with periodic discounts that our site reports on its telegram channel of offers.
