Meta, the company that controls Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and other services, announced that it has acquired Within, a software company that developed Supernatural, a successful virtual reality training app. Within will be part of the Oculus division, dedicated to the development of virtual reality products. Its purchase is part of the company's announced plan to develop the so-called “metaverse”, that is, an online environment that is much more engaging than current technologies.
Meta explained that Within will continue to develop the popular fitness app and work to improve future hardware to support fitness apps.
Meta's acquisition of Within comes as no surprise: in recent years Facebook, as the company was known until its name change announced Thursday, October 28, has acquired several virtual reality companies, such as Ready at Dawn and other studios that had worked on virtual reality versions of Fortnite and Roblox.
