Home Hi-Tech Audio / Video / TV / Streaming ,,,,, MPOW is among the most active audio peripheral manufacturers when it comes to iPhone and iPad accessories, especially in terms of portable speakers. The one under test, 20 W, is among the most elegant and refined, with a completely metal shell. Here's what convinced us, and what didn't.
How it is made
Among the “pros”, first of all, aesthetics, which certainly represents the first element that strikes the user when opening the package. From this point of view, the MPOW speaker under test defends itself really well and in terms of look and design it is particularly close to the well-known Bose SoundLink Mini. It will certainly be thanks to the metal that surrounds it, which makes the peripheral feel premium in nature. On the upper part a refined rubber control panel, where the on / off, pause / play button stands out, which also serves to answer calls, in addition to the plus and minus buttons for volume control. Two LEDs insist on this rubber part, which light up in blue and red to signal pairing, music playback or battery charge status.
On the front, the perforated grille is also very beautiful, allowing the manufacturer's logo to be appreciated, with a minimal and non-invasive style. On the back, however, AUX hole and MicroUSB input for charging. From an aesthetic point of view, we would like to reiterate it and one of the best in this price range, especially as regards the construction, with premium materials: it is well assembled, solid, and does not have any creaking whatsoever. Furthermore, the two rubbers on the lower part allow you to “stick” the case to flat surfaces, in an almost “sticky” way, without leaving any halo.
How it sounds
The speaker in MPOW test sounds good, but does not excel in any sector. From 20W a good power is expected: the volume, in fact, is not lacking, but nothing that cannot be matched by similar speakers, even of lower power. The bass is present, albeit in a very nuanced way, without the right power that makes them extremely catchy. On a low cost speaker it is still justifiable, but those who love to hear punchy bass will be disappointed. Something is also missing from the voice side or the clarity of the background musical instruments: the loudspeaker sounds sufficiently but does not stand out. The singers' voice is crystal clear and clear, but not too much, the instruments are heard well, but not too much, the general cleanliness of the sound is present, but not too much. In short, if you want to make a scholastic comparison, “the pupil is committed, but he could give more”. For the cost and the price range in which it is located, however, it is more than sufficient.
There is a microphone for hands-free calls, which makes it a valid companion for conversations. During the calls the interlocutor's voice is heard clearly, and at a discreet volume: also in this case not excellent. To be able, however, to get our voice to the other end of the handset it will be necessary to position yourself near the loudspeaker, to prevent the called party from hearing barely. However, this is a “problem” common to all peripherals of the same type. Good autonomy, but even in this case, needless to say, not excellent, with a duration that in some cases exceeds six hours of use.

Conclusions
The MPOW loudspeaker under test is, without a doubt, among the best in terms of aesthetics, construction, and materials used. Solid, it looks good in any corner of the house. The qualitative side of the sound is sufficient in everything: it gets along in every sector, but it excels in none.
