About a month ago we hosted on these pages the review of the MPOW active noise canceling headphones, model H16. Simply incredible, with an impressive quality / price ratio. Today another crazy surprise, with the MPOW H12 which appear to be, in some respects, an improvement on the previous ones. Once again we were absolutely impressed with the quality of this product.
We approached the MPOW H12 with absolutely high expectations. This is because H16 had literally bewitched us, with a very high quality / price ratio. Fortunately, MPOW H12 did not disappoint expectations at all, confirming the good things we had told about the previous ones, but improving a fundamental aspect. Let's proceed with order and start with the contents of the package and the aesthetics.
The sales package does not reserve any particular surprises, and as for the previous model, in addition to the charging cable and the jack cable, it offers a soft velcro carrying case, useful if it must be stored in a suitcase or inside a backpack. The headphones are foldable, but this time only in the part of the ear cups, but they still manage to take up little space, and to be transported easily.
We said that H12 takes all the good of H16 and improves some aspects. If we are to be honest, we are not referring to design. On an aesthetic level, in fact, we liked the H16 more. These H12s feature an auricle with a rough plastic coating, with veins that do not bring to mind a slightly vintage flavor. Attention, personal tastes are not discussed, and what our eyes do not like, could be extremely pleasant for others. Overall, these are certainly not ugly headphones, but if we had to choose only for the aesthetics, we would probably have decided for the H16.
It must be said, however, that beyond this small figure, H12 is preferable from any other point of view, starting with comfort. The ear cups are larger, in particular wider than the H16 model, and completely enclose the ear. of a film.
Obviously, the main material is plastic, although we would like to specify that it is a good plastic: sturdy, well assembled and particularly comfortable to the touch, so much so that it turns out to be headphones of medium-high quality.
The lightness of the headphones and the elongated oval pavilions are immediately appreciated, with a weight of just 245 grams absolutely well distributed. Comfortable yes, but but how do they sound?
Again, incredibly good. Basically, the sound seems to strongly recall the good we had appreciated in the H16 model, with an absolutely well balanced sound from all points of view, able to enhance even the bass, without being too intrusive or even annoying.
The quality and power delivered audio are remarkable, more the quality than the power. The volume is still very high, but what is most surprising is the composure of the sound, where there is nothing out of place. As soon as they are worn, what surprised us most is the insulation effect, even when turned off. Turned on, then, they will not allow you to talk even to an inch of your nose from our interlocutor.
The high tones are clean, the mids distinct and perfectly perceptible and the lows that pump clearly, but without being too intrusive and annoying. The sound is, therefore, particularly balanced, in all, and overall the quality is excellent. As already mentioned the sound is warm, enveloping, composed, balanced, and listening to a movie, rather than the game of Clash Royale, is fun.
Even at the maximum volumes you never run into any sound distortion, everything remains extremely clean and composed, with high, medium and low frequencies present and incisive, but never invasive.
Where H12 makes a difference from the previous model is in noise cancellation technology. Without wanting to compare these headphones to others for audiophiles of a completely different price, however, we must be honest: the “wow” effect was not lacking when the ANC key was turned on. We did not believe our eyes, indeed, our ears. The noise of cars passing outside our courtyard, perfectly audible without headphones, a little less with headphones on, almost completely disappeared after turning on the ANC keys.
If we had not had the same impression with the H16, this test model surprised us even more. We didn't think this technology could really work on a $ 65 pair of headphones, and instead we had to retract our ideas. Certainly the level of noise cancellation does not reach the quality of the headphones from several hundred euros, but H12 attenuates, almost to make it disappear, some background noises. They will certainly be a valid ally by train, plane or bus, even more so than the previous model on test.
Conclusions
There is nothing to say: MPOW H12 are yet another surprise. It is difficult, at the moment, to find headphones of this quality at this price. Not only do they offer near total isolation, with balanced, deep, warm and enveloping sound, but they offer active noise cancellation technology that really works. We would like to recommend them not only to those looking for a well-made headset without wanting to spend too much, but also to those who need medium noise canceling functions, to work in the office, to travel by train or plane.
Of course, we also recommend them for watching movies: during the tests we tested Netflix with excellent results, with the headphones that were found to be up to par, not only for comfort, but also for sound quality: they are really capable of enrich the viewing of a film, but also a videogame session, with a strong ability to emphasize background sound effects in the best possible way.
