According to the latest rumors, Netflix intends to enter the world of video games, hiring a former executive of Electronic Arts and Facebook to lead the company. According to a Bloomberg report, the US company has hired Mike Verdu to lead the upcoming gaming adventure.
Before joining Netflix, Verdu worked for Electronic Arts, Zynga, Atari and Facebook. In the latter company he was the vice president in charge of working with developers to bring games and other content to Oculus headsets.
Currently, the project is still in the works, but the basic idea is that Netflix's game offerings will be included in the current subscription. Users will not have to spend any more money to use the service and the goal is to launch the “Games” section within the next year.
The games will likely appear as a new genre alongside other content, similar to what the company has done with other special content. It is still unclear how the service will work, if games will be streamed full like on Google Stadia or if they will need to be downloaded to your device.
