Microsoft has started testing a new Windows taskbar design in the Insiders program for Windows 10.
The most prominent additions to the taskbar in this update are the news and weather widgets. It aims to provide users with stock prices, news updates, and weather information without having to open the start menu.
Of course, the news feed is customizable with 1000s of sources from the Microsoft News Network. Therefore these feeds can include sports, tech, finance or anything users show interest in.
The stories you see inside this new widget are custom-curated as well. So Microsoft will have the help of artificial intelligence to achieve that feat. Also, it will continue to learn what stories individual users are likely to read according to what news cards they dismiss or read.
The Windows Insider program started rolling out the update just today, so users can expect to see the taskbar in their PCs later this year after many refinements and bug fixes.
Microsoft has added that this new feature will be ad-free. It means users can get to information quickly without distracting ads. However, to make use of these new taskbar features there is one condition. You have to have the Microsoft Edge browser in your system. Any link you click on the taskbar widgets will need to open in Microsoft Edge.
