From today, using Google from mobile devices, you can whistle or hum a song to the search engine, which will then try to provide a series of links to that song. To do this – from compatible mobile devices and with the updated app – just open the Google Search app or widget, click on the microphone icon and then on the music note icon next to the wording “What is this song? “. The same thing can be done by voice via Google Assistant. The function is currently available on Android devices, while on iOS it is only available in English.
On his blog, Google also explained in more detail how its algorithms try to find a song starting from a whistle and transforming it into a numerical sequence that represents the melody.
The option also works if, instead of whistling the song, a recording is played, a bit like it already happens with the Shazam app.
