Home Reviews ,,,,, If you want to stay light when you train outdoors, you can do it without giving up music thanks to the Omorc MP3 player, a device designed specifically to be worn easily during sports activities. It is in fact sold together with a thin armband made to measure for the media player and is so light that you almost forget you have it with you. If combined with good headphones it can really be the winning solution to be able to leave the most bulky smartphone at home, especially in view of the price for which it is proposed.
How it is made
It is smaller than the new Nokia 3310 (specifically it measures 9 x 4 x 0.7 centimeters) and weighs only 40 grams: the weight is the first thing that strikes you as soon as you take it out of the sales package, especially in consideration of the fact that the whole case it is made of aluminum, a more resistant and valuable material than the common plastic that distinguishes most MP3 players on the market.
On one side there is a slot to expand the internal memory, of 8GB, with a microSD (supported up to 64GB), while on the bottom there is the microUSB input for battery charging, the 3.5mm audio jack and the hole for the microphone, useful for occasionally using the device as a portable recorder.
On the front side there is a large ring for controlling the music reproduction and the menu made of aluminum like the rest of the case, while on the upper half, alongside the small 1.8-inch TFT display, there are two colored polycarbonate buttons. black that allow you to adjust the volume and little else.

Menu and first start-up
To turn it on, press the ring near the Play / Pause symbol for a few seconds. After a short animation, the MP3 player will already be operational immediately. To turn it off, press and hold the same key again and wait for the count to end (1 … 2 … 3) to start the correct shutdown.
The main menu collects the 9 icons of the respective functions, in the order: Music, where we find the main player; Radio; Voice recorder; Stopwatch; Electronic book, or the possibility of reading .txt files, perhaps containing the text of a playlist being played; Images; Folder view, to manually browse the contents of the internal memory or the inserted microSD; Set, to access the settings panel; Alarm mode, to view the calendar and set an alarm.
How it works
To move around the menu you need to press the Fwd and Bwd keys to scroll back and forth, to confirm the choices you use the Play / Pause key while to go back you need to click the menu button, marked by three horizontal lines. A system that is a bit difficult since everyone is now used to managing music from the most comfortable menus on the touchscreen of smartphones, however, including the function of the individual keys, you immediately get carried away and it will not be too difficult to control the MP3 player.
As for the music, it is necessary to connect it to the computer via microUSB cable to add MP3s to the internal memory or to the SD card, which can alternatively be connected to the PC through the appropriate socket and then transferred to the MP3 player when data transfer is complete. Before using the microSD card we recommend inserting it into the reader and formatting it through the relevant function in the Settings, thus making sure that the player will be able to read it.
The player not only reads .mp3 files but also correctly plays .wma, .ogg, .ape, .wav and .acelp files, as well as .aac and .flac files. It reads the music stored in the microSD correctly and without latency, and also recognizes the metadata of the files: this means that it is possible to have all the music divided by artist, or by album or by genre, even without necessarily having to separate it into folders.

How to index music
However, it is first necessary to index the files (it works both with music stored on the local memory, and here songs stored in the microSD): to do this, open the Music section and scroll down to the Directory card item, then to the question Create a List? select Yes and wait for the end of the process, the duration of which varies according to the amount of music to be analyzed (20 seconds for about 200 MP3s). At the end, you will find the music well separated by artist, album and genre in the respective sections, as long as the correct information is entered in the file metadata: otherwise we recommend that you modify the file metadata from your computer with a special app as Meta or simply divide the songs into folders, by album and then the latter within the same artist, but renouncing the management from the Music section but passing instead through the “Folder view” menu.
Not just music for sportsmen
As we said, the MP3 player is sold together with an armband but the ability to read and listen to high quality files (FLAC) and some functions offered, make it excellent also for listening to quality music at home, perhaps with some good headphones or connecting it to a stereo. Speaking of headphones: There are a pair of earphones in the box. Throw them away, the quality is much lower than that of Apple's EarPods, just to make a comparison with an accessory that our readers should know very well.
In any case, when listening to music, it is possible to access a particular section for the personalization of listening by holding down the menu key for a second: here, for example, you can decide the playback mode (random, repeat), create playlists and add the music to your Favorites (which are called Bookmarks here). The most interesting function is the one that allows you to customize the audio settings: here it is in fact possible to select a different equalization by choosing from one of those already present (Rock, Funk, Hip Hop, Jazz, Classic, Techno) or by selecting the Personal item to adjust the '' equalization through 5 different frequency bands.
An even more interesting function is the one called Variable Speed Playback: here it is in fact possible to double or halve the playback speed through the (+) and (-) keys with a range of +8 and -8. This is a function that we consider very interesting for those who study music and need to slow down a song to listen to the individual notes in sequence with more precision.
Radio, texts and field test
By connecting any pair of headphones you can listen to the radio: it is an FM radio capable of picking up frequencies from 87.50 MHz to 108.00 MHz. Here too, by holding down the menu key for a second, you can access the radio control panel. with the ability to search for active stations to speed up the jump between stations while listening. The quality is very good, close to that of our MP3s. It is also possible to record radio programs to listen to them later.
The integrated voice recorder allows you to use the microphone to record, for example, a lecture at the university or a conference. The device can record MP3, WAV and ACT files at different bitrates (512 kbps, 768 kbps, 1024 kbps and 1536 kbps) and there is also a function that promises to reduce background noise, with some predefined scenes. The Stopwatch allows you to start, stop and monitor five different times, while the Lyrics mode allows you to open .txt files while listening to music, perhaps containing the text of a song being listened to in order to sing while listening to your favorite music. The Images section can open JPG, BMP and GIF files while in Alarm Mode it is possible to view the calendar (but only the days, without being able to add events) or set an alarm, a function that we consider quite useless as to be able to listen to them it is necessary put the headphones in your ears. In fact, there is no speaker that could have turned the MP3 player into a convenient alarm clock for the morning.
Battery autonomy
The manufacturer promises 30 hours of uninterrupted listening, while we have never managed to exceed the total 12 hours of playback, on paper enough to accompany the user in different training sessions. What's worse is that after a few recharges the autonomy is further reduced, which is not normal. In the latest tests we even happened to recharge the battery and leave the MP3 player simply resting on the desk, then finding it the following morning with the battery completely discharged. This means that the sample probably had a defective component.
Conclusions
Overall, the audio quality is very good: it does not differ from the built-in player on the smartphone. We reiterate that the champion we tested had problems right in the battery three weeks after his first start. This may also have been at the origin of the poor initial duration, but we have not been able to have a match with a second sample.
The armband is built well, it does not differ from those we have tried in the past for smartphones but here we are faced with a product made to measure for the MP3 player, excellent both for being able to manage music without having to remove it from the armband both to be able to keep a key inside the special pocket.
