On some computers the new Windows 10 update crashes using Chrome

After installing the latest update of Windows 10 (“April Update”), several users have reported having problems with Chrome, the Google browser, which in some cases leads to the blocking of the operating system. Other users say they have similar problems when they use the voice command “Hey Cortana” to activate the Windows 10 virtual assistant. Microsoft said it is aware of the problem affecting some devices and configurations. The company is working to include a fix in the next security update, which will be available starting May 8.

It is not clear how extensive the problem is, but given that each new Windows 10 update is tested by millions of users, who voluntarily participate in Microsoft's new software verification system, it should involve a limited number of users. Pending the update, Microsoft has however released a couple of solutions that should unblock Chrome.

• Press the “Windows Logo – Ctrl – Shift – b” keys, or if you are using a tablet press the volume keys simultaneously three times, with an interval of one second between each press.

• If you are using a laptop, close and reopen the screen.
