Grohe Sense is a small smart control that prevents water leaks in the house: or rather, although it cannot foresee or contain them, it warns you in case of loss via a beep, and alerts on your smartphone, allowing you either to intervene or to stem the problem.
In reality Grohe Sense is only a small part of a much more attentive system and powerful that Grohe has been selling for a few months, which we talked about here, which consists of Grohe Sense Guard, a controller to be inserted into the pipes that automatically blocks the water supply in case of abnormal functioning, and of several Grohe Sense which, placed in different corners of the house (bathroom, laundry and kitchen above all) collaborate with Grohe Sense Guard for a complete radiograph.
Today we deal with however of Grohe Sense, which can also be used alone for monitoring: we kept it a few weeks next to the washing machine, let's see how
Grohe Sense, not just water
Out of the box the little Grohe sensor looks small, discreet and functional, basically a small white plastic cylinder with the brand on the top.
For activation and the first sync with the App for iOS and Android you need a little dexterity: you have to open the device, insert the batteries (included) and follow the instructions of the App for the pairing Wi-Fi, after which you can forget about it for a few years.
Once the installation is finished, Grohe Sense must be deposited in a point where water leakage is probable (near the washing machine, under the sink, under the sink, near the shower) and wait for the first 48 hours for the system to perform the first detection.
Yes, because Grohe is not only a guard for flooding, but also checks the air quality 24/24, at least in terms of the temperature of the room where it is located and the relative atmospheric humidity.
These data are important both if we live inside the controlled house, to understand if it is necessary to intervene (within the App there are of the upper and lower limits that it is not advisable to pass), and also to monitor what happens to the house by the sea or in the mountains, which remain closed for months, whose structures are subject to greater degradation (and more frequent breakages) in case of situations climatic out of bounds.
The power of the App
Needless to say, most of the interaction is carried out by the App: through this it is possible to monitor the weekly, monthly and quarterly averages of temperature and humidity, with preset parameters but which we can moderate at will by acting on a graph.
The App, very simple ce but well balanced, it is designed for the common user who can install and monitor the various Grohe Sense in complete autonomy: it is also possible to classify multiple sensors for houses and rooms, and obviously through the Wi-Fi pairing also make them communicate all at the same time with the smartphone even when we are out.
In case of flooding, Grohe Sense turns on a bright red color and activates a ringtone for about a minute, as well as providing an alarm also to all connected devices such as smartphones or tablets.
The App also keeps a history of all the alarms for posthumous consultation.
Considerations
A simple flooding of the bathroom, kitchen or laundry can cause damage of several hundred euros, considering only the intervention of the plumber and the leakage of water, a price destined to rise dramatically if not contained , with furniture and electrical objects that can also cause small fires as well as break permanently.
Faced with this, the cost of 59.99 Euros for a sensor appears very low, considering that a hard charge about four years and that together with this we have an x-ray of the air of the house (or of the room where we put the sensor) on which we can reflect and at least intervene.
Grohe Sense is available starting from the Grohe website (together with all the other products of the famous German brand) but it is also available from certified installers or online at a price of 59.99 euros, to which a smaller external sensor can be added ( to be placed in narrow corners, such as under the washing machine) for 29.99 euros.
