It is from OnePlus 5T that, every year, the Cyber Layman review devotes great attention to the latest top of the range released by the company. The reason is obvious: the value for money of these smartphones is unbeatable, and far exceeds the competition. With OnePlus 6T things do not change, and indeed, the small changes compared to the previous model, follow great innovations. Here's how we think about the OnePlus 6T.
Paradoxically, every time we found ourselves reviewing a OnePlus we had difficulty appreciating the latest model released. Not for the demerits of the latter, but for the merits of the predecessor. The latest top of the range of the house is to rival a previous model that has always surprised positively. It happened to us with OnePlus 6, released after the success of the 5T, it now happens again with this 6T, which we are confronted with directly with the model 6. The company, in short, has been showing off smartphones for ninety, which are competing, even before than with the competition, with the previous models, always appreciated.
Design
The design of this OnePlus 6T is, on the one hand, very similar to its direct predecessor, on the other hand it has some advantages, but also disadvantages. Let's start with the latter. 6T is a bit thicker than its predecessor, probably due to the in-display fingerprint sensor and larger battery. The 400 mAh more make this difference absolutely justifiable, but know that you are in your hand in the 185 gram terminal, against the 177 grams of the predecessor.
The positive notes, on the other hand, mainly concern the notch: even smaller than OnePlus 6, and with a shape that is now renamed to drop. It is one of the most minimal solutions implemented on a smartphone, with the exception of the more extreme choices made by Oppo Find X and Xiaomi Mi Mix 3, which offer a slide under which the front camera and the possible 3D unlocking are hidden.
In the hand OnePlus 6T is held, more or less, like the previous model, and on the bottom there is always space for the USB-C port, side by side from two speaker grilles, although sadly only one of them is real. OnePlus 6T still offers mono audio. The hope is that the next OnePlus 7 will amaze from this point of view and offer users stereo sound.
The jack is missing 3.5mm headphones: the company highlighted that the sacrifice served to insert a larger battery. We do not feel like disputing this statement, but at least in the first weeks of use we felt the lack of the jack, also convenient for connecting the terminal to the car stereo via AUX: in the package there is the classic USB-C 3.5mm jack adapter. , but using it the possibility of reloading the terminal is no longer possible.
Display
OnePlus 6T sports a 6.41-inch panel with AMOLED technology at a resolution of 2,340 x 1,080 and a pixel density of 402ppi. No doubt about it, we are facing one of the best panels available on the market and in this price range. Those who are worried about the resolution “only” 1080p, will absolutely have to change their mind.
The panel has an excellent quality, with software customizations that will make it perfect for every user, who can choose between sRGB, DCI-P3, adaptive mode, or user-defined mode: in short, the display adjustments are so many that you will be able to calibrate it to the best.
Technically, the display of OnePlus 6T is brighter than that of OnePlus 6, but obviously it will be difficult in everyday life to appreciate the difference. The screen looks great in any situation, and it doesn't have a problem even in direct sunlight. Once again the night and reading modes are appreciable, the last of which allows you to set the screen in black and white. We are amazed how other Android manufacturers have not yet copied this feature.
OnePlus 6T, how it turns out
There would be very little to say. One word would be enough: magnificently. OnePlus 6T keeps expectations, thanks to a full thickness technical sheet. Once again the operating system, the OxygenOS, can be defined as the best UI currently available to users. It offers a light, almost stock Android experience, but with those small (and few) customizations you really need. It goes without saying that we are faced with one of the fastest smartphones on the market, even faster than other terminals with the highest price list. Everything runs absolutely smoothly, the transition from one app to another, from one screen to another, happens practically instantly, without the slightest lag.
Hardware
OnePlus, as always, does not discount hardware. The 6T offers the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 as on the One Plus 6, and offers variants of 6 or 8 GB of RAM, with 128 or 256 GB ROM. We have already said about the lack of the audio jack, as well as about the battery, which goes from the 3300 mAh of the OnePlus 6 to the 3700 mAh of this 6T. This is an increase of 12 percent, but the software improvements in aid serve to make the time of screen on: the terminal has one of the best autonomies ever seen on a smartphone.

The new OnePlus 6T offers an all-screen front with a huge 6.4 ″ AMOLED display. which stands out a very small front notch, in which only the front camera is housed, this is because the main authentication system is a fingerprint sensor integrated into the screen.
The manufacturer declares that only 0 is enough for unlocking , 34 seconds, recor timing d. Also confirmed the presence of a generous 3,700 mAh battery with fast charging using OnePlus Fast Charge technology.

Fingerprints
Attention aside deserves the fingerprint sensor, placed below the screen. The change allows OnePlus to certainly raise the bar of the “innovation” department. It is an optical reader, which completely replaces the fingerprint reader on the back of the device. The scanner, in terms of functions, replaces the more classic Touch ID reader, so it allows you to unlock the terminal or access apps with a single touch.
We have to be honest: as far as the best under-screen Touch ID is, it is often quite slow and sometimes inaccurate. It is much better than other first generation under-display readers, such as the one in the Huawei Mate RS, but it does not offer the same accuracy as the traditional ones inserted in the OnePlus 6 and OnePlus 5T. The technology still seems to need another generation to mature before it can yield better results.
In everyday life it is enough to find yourself with dirty or slightly damp hands to have difficulty unlocking the terminal. However, when we say “dirty”, we are also referring to small debris that accumulate du during the day, touching the shopping bags, rather than typing on the keyboard or holding a mouse. In short, it is enough that the finger is not perfectly clean to have some small unlocking problems. Let's be clear, 8 times out of ten we manage to unlock the terminal, while for the other two we need a little more patience.
Fortunately, the face unlock is always accurate and reliable, as it was on the OnePlus 6 or 5T. Even from this point of view, however, we have noticed a different behavior than in the past, which may not like it at all. While on OnePlus 6 and 5T it was enough to wake up the display with a double tap to start the face unlock, on this OnePlus 6T the Face ID will activate only and only by pressing the power / stand by button on the right side.
Camera
OnePlus 6T has two cameras on the back; one of 16MP with focal aperture 1.7 and OIS, and the other of 20MP, mainly used for depth detection. The front camera is 16MP. OnePlus hasn't updated the camera hardware in this new 6T, but has made some changes to its Portrait processing algorithms, as well as added a new Night Mode setting. The OnePlus 6's camera wasn't bad, but it seemed a step down from its more expensive competitors. This gap is still there, albeit hand marked.
In the photos of OnePlus 6T you can see a better color and sharpness, especially in better lit scenarios. While the photos are flatter than the most famous top of the range, iPhone XS and Mate 20 Pro above all, it is certainly possible to remain totally satisfied with the photographic department, also in consideration of the cost: compared to the aforementioned terminals, it costs practically half, and take pictures that are still comparable.
In condition of low light we have noticed noticeable improvements compared to the previous generation, even if the images continue to show some too much noise. To get around this, OnePlus has added a new “Night” mode, which shoots with long exposure to increase sharpness and dynamic range. Of course, this intro doesn't work wonders, but it definitely helps add some sharpness.
The front camera on the OnePlus 6T is quite standard . In both portrait and standard mode, it tends to smooth out the skin. This could be appreciable in some circumstances, but in some shots it seemed a bit too artificial.
What continues to amaze us is the Portrait mode with the rear camera. The cutouts between the subject in the foreground and background are generally very good, with an overall result that is absolutely impactful and of great effect.
Like we always leave you with a gallery of photos taken with OnePlus 6T, which absolutely give an idea of how you take the photos.
Software
As already mentioned, OxygenOS is the best Android customization. Not much has changed since the OnePlus 6, and that's good. The 6T arrives with Android 9.0 Pie on board, with the optional gestures to eliminate the buttons on the screen.
As always, it is possible to change the look of the icons by applying a theme of your choice to be downloaded from the Play Store , while the night and reading modes are available, to calibrate the tone of the device and be able to use it at its best even in the evening.
The UI is absolutely streamlined, minimal and modern, and as already mentioned it is the most fluid and lightning fast ever seen on an Android terminal. There is something that doesn't really go down, but it is related to a decision by Google, rather than by OnePlus: the volume key controls only and only the multimedia department, while to intervene on the ringtone volume you will have to access the Settings menu.
Price and availability
OnePlus 6T is already available for purchase on various channels. We recommend GearBest, because the price is absolutely unbeatable: it starts at 461 euros. There is no doubt, a best buy.
