Open subtitles has been hacked: usernames and passwords compromised

On 1 August 2021 Open Subtitles, a well-known reference point for those looking for subtitles in every language for films and TV series, was hacked. The violation was only discovered and verified yesterday by Firefox Monitor, which then added it to its database.

Passwords, email addresses and IP addresses have been stolen, therefore, if you have not already done so in the last 6 months, it is recommended to change the Open Subtitles password , and above all of all those services that use the same keyword. Then pay attention to the appearance of scam / phishing emails, which could now be more numerous.

The tips in this case are always the same: avoid using the same password on different sites and / or using common phrases. The ideal would be to use a password manager with auto-generation of random keys, so that each one is different from the others, and impossible to guess. There is a similar service in Chrome browser , if you don't already use it.
