Home Hi-Tech Audio / Video / TV / Streaming ,,,,,

The field of bluetooth speakers is now evolving towards the world of virtual assistants, yet the market for bare and raw bluetooth speakers is still very large and heterogeneous. Oregon tries to stand out with a peripheral with a double soul: on the one hand a classic BT speaker, on the other an alarm clock. Style and elegance, combined with a touch of modernity to put on the bedside table in your bedroom.

Unboxing and content

Even before seeing how it's done and how it sounds, here is a small photo unboxing, showing the exact contents of the package: speaker, manual, and power supply.

How it's made

Oregon Scientific Resonance immediately presents itself as a speaker with style and elegance. With its rounded shapes it immediately gives the idea of being a bedside alarm clock, but what stands out on everything is the fabric front, under which a white LED display is installed, absolutely visible even during the day, and adjustable. with 3 degrees of brightness. On the upper part is the control panel, with the classic white rubber keys, which adapt well to the speaker frame. In total, the speaker features 6 buttons, which allow all necessary adjustments, including a larger Snooze button to instantly adjust the display brightness, or eliminate the backlight altogether.

It has dimensions of 200 x 89 x 72.9 mm, and despite its light weight, remains firmly on any surface, also thanks to the two rubber parts on the bottom and above all also at high volumes on songs that pump the bass as much as possible.

On the rear, on the other hand, there are the inputs and the connectivity ports. First of all that of the power supply, next to a standard USB port with a 1A output for charging smartphones and other external devices. The last port is the Aux in port: Oregon Scientific Resonance is a BT speaker, but it is also possible to connect external audio sources. One of the many solutions that comes to mind is the possibility of connecting, for example, an audio Chromecast, so as to use the device as a speaker to be combined with a multiroom audio network, controlled by Google Assistant.

Among the most valuable aesthetic elements, as already mentioned, the large white LED display on the front , grafted underneath a fabric panel. Here the time (hours, minutes and seconds) is always clearly visible, but by pressing the “M” key on the top you will have access to other information: day, month, and day of the week. The Snooze button, on the other hand, will allow you to adjust the brightness of the display or turn it off completely; there is no possibility of automatically turning off the display after a few seconds. The always on display could be annoying at night, and in this case you will always have to turn it on and off manually.

Obviously, the alarm function is important. On this Oregon she is always precise and attentive. First of all, there are two alarms that can be set, with different times. It is possible to choose the different times and then which of the two alarms to keep active: if only one or the other, or if both at the same time.

When the alarm sounds, you can press any button, except Snooze, to stop it. If you press Snooze, however, the alarm will be postponed by 8 minutes. From the point of view of the alarm clock, Oregon Scientific Resonance is really complete and efficient.

How it sounds

Oregon Scientific Resonance has two 2 x10 Watt speakers inside. It sounds good, offers a particularly high volume considering its size and black characteristics, and a sound quality that can be enjoyed on any musical genre. The sound is always clean and absolutely balanced in any musical context. In songs like “Over the Rainbow” by Israel Kamakawiwo'ole we perceived a great cleanliness of the background, which left very distinct foreground vocals from the background instrumentation. Although not in front of a peripheral for audiophiles, also in consideration of characteristics and price, Oregon Scientific Resonance returns a full and deep sound, absolutely enjoyable.

Even in songs like “River and Stick” by Oakhurst, although it is not possible to have a spatial perception of the instruments used, these remain all clearly distinguishable in the background, and also in this case we noticed a good clean sound and a full-bodied, controlled sound. Speaking of control, by playing “Bass .. can U Hear Me”, you can slightly perceive the bass, which although they do not explode, are still present and under control: only at particularly high volumes, and exclusively with songs like this, we have started to hear a very slight background rustle.

Conclusions

Oregon Scientific Resonance combines good sound quality with a beautiful, modern and minimal design. The possibility of recharging smartphones is good, even if only at 1A speed, as well as the presence of Aux In. If it had also had radio functions it would have been the perfect room peripheral, but in any case, the speaker in question looks good and offers a quality absolutely in line with what it costs.

On the official Oregon website you can buy for 89.99 euros, but on Amazon you can save a few euros.
