Home Hi-Tech Android World ,,,,, Chinese smartphones have long invaded the landscape and no longer represent the exception even in our country. There are so many producers who try to imitate the famous brands with more or less luck, that the panorama of offers is almost saturated.
There are those, like OUKITEL, who prefer to distance themselves from the crowd, with the production of niche terminals: Oukitel WP2 is not a terminal for everyone, but they have very clear ideas. That's who this armored smartphone with 10,000 mAh battery is for.
Oukitel WP2, needless to say, is not a phone for everyone. It is big, chunky, and cluttered. It is certainly not a phone that goes unnoticed, or that can be carried in trouser pockets. It's a full-blown rugged phone, massive, with a design that doesn't try to hide sharp edges at all, but rather enhances them.
It is equipped with a MediaTek MT6750T octa-core processor clocked at 1.5 GHz, supported by 4GB RAM and 64GB, which can make the Android 8.0 Oreo operating system move smoothly.
It has dual band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2 and NFC, as well as digital compass, GPS, and dual nano SIM compartment, which supports both dual-SIM, single SIM and SD card operation. However, what most characterizes the terminal is the battery, of 10,000mAh with reverse charging: yes, this Oukitel WP2 also charges other smartphones, thanks to the integrated adapter cable.
It has a huge 6-inch display with FHD + resolution, with a resolution of 2160 x 1080 and an 18: 9 aspect ratio. On the front, Oukitel has inserted an 8 megapixel selfie camera, while on the back the terminal reveals a configuration with dual cameras with Samsung sensors, 16 and 2 megapixels. Of course, as a good tank, OUKITEL WP2 is covered with thick rubber all over the frame, and is IP68 certified.
In the box
In the sales package, in addition to the terminal, also a pre-applied film, the USB C cable for charging and two different adapters: a first USB C to 3.5mm headphone jack, a second USB C to USB female, to be able to insert external cables and charge their smartphones. The same cable also has classic OTG functions. Also included is a 9V / 2A battery charger for fairly quick charging, considering the huge 10000 mAh battery.
Hardware and Design
As already mentioned, WP2 is by no means a small smartphone. It measures 176.6 x 85.3 x 16.5mm and weighs a whopping 360 grams. The screen, as already mentioned, is 6 inches, but the overall diagonal of the terminal is about 7.7 inches.
The design is particularly aggressive, with torx screws in plain sight and a rear part with a plastic pattern and a chamber compartment surrounded by an aluminum plate, always set in the terminal body with torx screws. Particularly the positioning of the fingerprint reader, which is located on the right side, just below the volume rocker and standby key.
Display
The display chosen by Oukitel for this WP2 has a resolution of 2,160 x 1,080, an aspect ratio of 18: 9 and 403 ppi, protected with Gorilla Glass. Of course we are talking about LCD technology. The overall display quality isn't bad at all.
Far from it. Black and white are absolutely enjoyable and what most excited us are the viewing angles. Even when looking at the display at particularly important angles, the display remains legible and the colors faithful. The brightness is certainly high for outdoor use, therefore even during particularly sunny days.
Performance and battery life
On the performance front, Oukitel WP2 is a full-blown mid-range. It is used well, it does not propose particular problems, but of course it fails to exalt itself as higher-end phones. If we were to compare it to more well-known terminals, it could be compared to a Galaxy S4 or, at most, S5.
In terms of usability, however, it does not miss anything, but it is certainly not a phone suitable for gaming or heavy video editing. In any case, all those apps of daily use work very well, such as messaging apps, emails, internet browsers, and all those casual games that represent the most noble uses.
Battery life is, of course, the strong point of the device. We managed to reach over 11 hours of screen on, so double that of a common smartphone today.
In conditions of normal use, this figure translates into at least two and a half days without intermediate refills. Therefore, it should be considered that a 50% recharge will already be able to cover a whole day of use. We cannot forget, then, the convenience of recharging another phone on the fly: like having a power bank combined with a smartphone.
Cameras
Achilles heel, shared with all Chinese mid-range smartphones, are the cameras. They are not, of course, insufficient, but Oukitel WP2 is not the smartphone for memorable shots. Photos are taken at 5376 x 3024 pixels by default, with a fairly slow focus; often you will have to manually focus on the subject with a simple tap on the screen.
The photos, however, have beautiful colors and also some details that are not expected from a mid-range terminal of this kind. The bokeh effect is totally managed via software, and it shows, while the night shots are sufficient, but the subject in the foreground seems to be dazzled by a yellowish color. We leave you to our photo gallery taken with the terminal in question, without the application of any post production effect.
Conclusion
Oukitel WP2 has a very specific purpose: to be a tank that can offer two and a half days of use and withstand the most extreme uses. With its construction it really resists everything, it does not fear shocks, mud, dust or water.
The IP68 certification makes it a tank that does not fear hostile environments at all. The ability to use it as an emergency power bank is an added value. The cost is also absolutely a merit: the 190 euros requested are a more than justified price list for a massive rugged terminal and, all in all, really well built.
It costs 193 euros on GearBest (100 euros less than on Amazon) and you buy directly from here .
