Paid news content goes free with Google News Showcase (updated)

Google News Showcase is coming to Italy , thanks to the agreement with many national and local newspapers, such as Corriere della Sera , il Sole 24Ore , il Resto del Carlino , Il Foglio , Libero , il Fatto Quotidiano , Il Giornale , Il Giorno , The Nation , Il Messaggero , Il Gazzettino , Il Mattino , Il Tempo , Corriere Group , Fanpage , MilanoToday and RomaToday , IVG.it and Varesenews , but the list would go on.

This means that shortly, in Google News and Discover , you will also be able to find content otherwise accessible only against payment ( paywall ), in order to learn more about the work of the various editors and eventually subscribe if you like it.

The service will actually be made available in Italy “in the coming weeks”, and will also offer publishers the opportunity to edit their News Showcase cards, in order to provide greater coverage of the news, with any further information and reading suggestions.

Update 03/31/2021

Google has just confirmed that as of today, March 31, 2021, Showcase is available on Google News and Discover , with 70 publications , both national and local, with “ a limited amount of content protected by paywall “included.
