Palmo Review, the case that locks in the hand and protects iPhone and iPad

But is it really necessary to review a case? The question is whether many of those who have read the title of this article will be asking, given the large number of products of this type on the market and the high difficulty in distinguishing one from the other. In reality, the same doubts arose also to those who wrote the article when Ecbb, a Japanese company, proposed to take a look at its Palmo, but once received in our mailbox (sent from Amazon where they are for sale) a version for iPhone 7 and one for iPad mini, it took us very little to realize that, yes: a case is worth reviewing, when it has something that others don't have and when it can change the way you use iPhone or iPad.

The fact that Palmo is different from all the other cases is certified by a series of awards received (including the Reddot Award for design) but also and above all else the appearance. It is a sort of wrapping “bumper” that grabs the four corners of the device and passes on the back leaving both the long edges and the short edges free. At first glance it would be tempting to consider the shape as well as a bit excessive in appearance, banal and not very useful. One wonders in particular how it is possible that the MIL-STD-810G “military grade” certification has been applied to it, which although criticizable (the boundaries it sets for its application are as well known for several very questionable aspects), however places this accessory in the category of protective cases. How can an iPhone to withstand falls and bumps such a “synthetic” case?

By putting it on and trying it for a few days, the question had a very precise answer: minimalist care, in full Japanese style , with which it was designed, hides a series of “tricks” that give it something that the others do not have and make preconceptions fall away.

Here is the “fitted” case

First of all, Palmo covers everything that needs to be covered and does so by totally wrapping the edges, that is the most sensitive part of the iPhone and iPad; then it manages to avoid, with a clever play of thicknesses, that any element of the device can touch a surface. The back will no longer come into contact with the tabletop and neither will the screen. In addition, the generous thickness, as well as the silicone compound, act as a shock absorber in case of falls or bumps. Obviously we are not dealing with an “all-proof” case (the edge of the phone or tablet can always be subjected to wear because they remain naked) and there is no protection from dust or humidity, but very few if any minimal case like this is able to better protect the device from causal accidents such as falling from the car seat or hands.

The Palmo case is also a kind of manual … of instructions The coupling system The material is very soft Profile view, as for the iPad version, it is barely perceptible The iPad is very protected from shocks, despite the minimal shape Here we see how the iPad, thanks to the abundant angle, you do not touch the surface In the back, the protection is shaped so as to prevent contact with the edge The case is very elastic Here's how it works na the system

Speaking of falling from the hands, here's the second little big secret of the Palmo. It is a product capable of enormously improving grip and this not only because it creates a series of steps and elements that work as a non-slip grip, but because it is designed to wrap around the fingers of the hand.

It is the rear crossing that performs this function which we could compare to a sort of handle. Created to be very elastic, it loosens enough to pass one or two, if not four (in the case of the iPad version) fingers giving the possibility to handle the device with great safety or to hold it in the hand limiting the stress of who is used to holding the phone constantly in hand. In practical terms, with Palmo you can hold the iPhone or iPad without worrying about locking it, it will even be possible to hold it vertically by holding the hand completely open, defying the force of gravity without resorting to the classic little finger and index finger which respectively act as support.

What does this mean? That it will be much easier, with an iPhone, to write text with one hand using the thumb, that we will be able to watch a film in an uncomfortable position for a long time, that we will be able to handle, for fans of the subject, easily the phone for a selfie shot . Especially when walking or on public transport we will no longer have to fear an accidental bump and writing with one hand will be extremely comfortable and safe.

Then there are a number of other collateral advantages that derive from the use of Palm and that Ecbb suggests: reduced heating of the hand and the device, for example, and also substantial lightness of the case. In addition, the iPhone remains quite visible in its forms and is fully usable for volume adjustment, turning off or connecting Lightning cables.

The Palm in iPhone version The case rises only slightly on the front edge Profile view, as for the iPad version, is barely noticeable This is how it stands vertically The lower edge leaves all the doors free The back is equally protected

Ultimately it is not difficult to promote Palmo with flying colors. It is the ideal case for those looking for an accessory capable of moderately protecting, but with extreme intelligence, iPhone or iPad and for those who want to have greater security, at the same time, in handling their device. It is not an all-proof case and it is not even the most minimal one for the impact to the eye (especially on the iPhone), but it is certainly an excellent daily life companion for those who hold the iPhone or iPad a lot in hand and wants to reduce the consequent risks. It is cleverly designed and made with quality materials. The price, which starts at 23 euros including shipping on Amazon, is completely in line with performance and design.

Palmo is available in various colors, for iPhone 5, 5s and SE, iPhone 6 and 6s, iPhone 7, iPad mini (all models), 9.7 ”iPad Air and Pro. You can buy it on Amazon with free shipping using the “satisfied or refunded” Prime service, starting from here
