Qualcomm could be the culprit that Macs with an M1 chip cannot run Windows

One of the disadvantages of the new Mac with ARM processor is the impossibility of using Boot Camp so that these computers also run Windows, Microsoft's operating system. But what if it is actually Qualcomm's fault?

According to XDA Developers, the processor manufacturer has an exclusive agreement for the use of Windows on ARM equipment, given that the company would have worked together with Microsoft to be able to adapt the operating system to chips with this architecture. Qualcomm, in fact, is the only manufacturer that includes ARM SoCs in Windows PCs. Fortunately for some companies, and as the aforementioned portal has learned, the contract could expire soon , although the date is unknown.

The expiration of the contract would open the door for other manufacturers to also develop ARM processors for Windows PCs. Recently, in fact, MediaTek announced its intention to manufacture chips of this type for computers with the Microsoft operating system. And it would come as no surprise if, in the future, other brands such as Samsung were also interested in this area, taking into account the interest that Apple's strong commitment to this architecture has raised.

Without the exclusivity for Qualcomm, would Boot Camp reach Macs with Apple Silicon?

As for Apple, it is unknown, at the moment, if the Cupertino firm would enable Boot Camp on Macs with Apple Silicon when Qualcomm ceases to have the exclusivity of the use of Windows in SoCs ARM.

Meanwhile, it is possible to use Windows 11 through Parallels Desktop, a program that allows you to enjoy, through virtualization, all the functions of the new Microsoft operating system. Parallels virtualization, however, does not match the performance of the native Windows 11 run. Therefore, those who need to use both operating systems for any particular reason, probably prefer to have Boot Camp on their side.
