Qualcomm wants to advance the smartwatch industry

Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon Wear processor certainly comes with great power, but only two smartwatches have launched with it since its announcement over a year ago. Processor adoption has been a constant issue over the past few years, but Qualcomm is now working on it.

In fact, today the company announces its Wearables Ecosystem Accelerator Program to help companies involved in the wearable sector to learn about and collaborate on new products. The acceleration program consists of smartwatch OEMs and ODMs, ISPs, independent hardware and software developers (IHVs and ISVs), and systems integrators. Nearly 50 brands are already part of the program, including notable members such as Arm, BBK, Fossil, Mobvoi, Oppo, TCL, Timex, Verizon and ZTE.

Qualcomm's goal with the program is to “facilitate collaboration” and accelerate problem resolution. In other words, companies involved in the smartwatch space will be able to talk to each other regularly and help each other, hold training sessions on new technologies, demonstrate concepts, share new technologies and much more. All this hoping to solve the most common problems that afflict this world.
