Home Cyber Layman Mac Accessories ,,,,,
The arrival of Rapoo also in Italy has finally materialized, after the announcement that we at Maciynet also made a few weeks ago: so here we are to examine the first device of the oriental brand, the 6610 mouse, capable of working both wirelessly (with USB-A antenna) and via Bluetooth, perfect for laptops.
Who writes these lines has tested several mice, from models cheaper to the most important ones, and has developed a firm belief that, on the one hand the mouse is a particularly important object in the computer ecosystem, because we delegate most of the inputs to it, on the other it is also true that it is of an object whose choice is completely personal and as such the happier the wider the choice.
The 6610, object of this test, it is a mouse that combines several aspects: first of all an excellent price / performance ratio, because the price range of 30 euros is particularly crowded with models that focus more on economy than on the presence of important features.
Secondly, the dual soul (Bluetooth and Wi-Fi) allows on the one hand to have a performing mouse and safe in every situation (even at trade fairs, where the Wi-Fi signal is always preferable) on the other hand, to be able to use the mouse in a more cheerful way because via Bluetooth one (precious) USB port is left free. More if you have one of the new MacBook Pros or a MacBook, without a USB-A port.
In addition to this, a series of features that make it a good product, which excels in its range of price: let's see carefully its characteristics.
6610, essential and well calibrated
The packaging of the 6610 is thin and lets you glimpse the product even before opening it: the body of the mouse is made in a classic, ambidextrous shape: the upper part, in an aluminum alloy, is painted with a slightly tinted glitter, while on the side the mouse is belted with a soft rubber.
In the front part the wheel peeps out, generally larger than normal but comfortable and with a light jerky operation.
The properties of the mouse speak of three buttons (two on the side plus one on the wheel), which are perhaps actually few, there would be liked having a few more buttons, maybe late rale: the mouse has a very classic footprint, without touch features or original operating characteristics, and in an office work perspective, the three keys are probably sufficient, less for those who do more vertical operations.
Still speaking of the keys, as far as we know there are no drivers for Mac: the mouse, once connected (in both ways), simply works, and is seen as a Mac mouse without touch. This aspect is not indicated on the site (which reports the driver download for Windows only), but it actually is and probably most users will use it without thinking too much.
Who instead wants greater customization, even if with three buttons it is not that you can get much, you can use a third-party software, we have tried with satisfaction Steer Mouse, an App of oriental origin that allows you to customize not only Rapoo mice but of any brand , also optimized for macOS Sierra. We emphasize that, however, for a three-button mouse it may not be necessary.
Double soul
The most interesting part of the mouse, however, is represented by the double soul, which translates into the double possibility of connection with the Mac: removed the lower protection, in the battery compartment, there is the USB-A key which acts as a wireless antenna for the 2.4 Ghz connection. Used in this way with an iMac, the mouse turned out to be good, with an accuracy in fact above average, thanks to 1,000 dpi, a threshold not to be taken for granted in the same price range, where usually 800 dpi is not exceeded. .
Put the USB antenna back and opting for the Bluetooth 3.0 connection, the mouse was seen immediately from the Mac without particular problems.
In both cases the connection was stable, and even if we did not have the opportunity to try extreme situations in this case (for example, a fair or an event with many devices in a confined space) the impression is that the Bluetooth connection is also more than good.
The declared autonomy of nine months with a full two AA batteries, is more than good, but not we had the opportunity to test it in the few weeks of use.
Field test
We have used the 6610 in various ways, starting with the real ones zzing of tests for Cyber Layman up to some flashes of production going from Photoshop to QuarkXPress, and other Apps such as Hype, Vellum and Illustrator, without forgetting the transition to all the Office 2016 apps for Mac.
During these tests, the purely concrete soul of the product emerged, which is at ease in Word, Excel and Power Point, but also in Vellum, while it does its work in Photoshop, QuarkXpress and Illustrator (inside the latter with some extra effort) but only on basic tasks, if the needs increase the objective limits of dynamics, resolution and the need to have more programmable keys emerges clearly.
Also tested in the wastelands of Starcraft, with aliens galore and missiles falling from all sides, the mouse held up the fight but did not prove to be a dedicated weapon when the battle reached a notable fervor: in particular, playing at resolutions of or close to 4 / 5K, the resolution of just 1000 dpi proves sufficient only in games with little adrenaline.
Conclusions
The general impression on the product is more than good, and starts from the assumption that, as we have underlined, the product excels in its price range, which is more than positive.
We liked it as a mouse to put in the backpack for those who use the laptop not in production, or for those who use Office Apps a lot (official or not).
Those who do production, or play for passion or for sports, perhaps will focus on other products (and other budgets), while it is an excellent mouse to keep an eye on for those with more casual needs, wireless, suitable for 'soft use and fits well in the bag, ready when needed.
