RavPower charger with 3 USB and through and rotating socket: our test

Home Reviews ,,,,, In the past few days we have tried a very interesting RavPower charger with a view to saving space. Although in fact it is not very small (it measures about 12.5 x 5.5 x 3.5 cm) it avoids us to connect up to three power supplies for our electronic devices and thanks to the pass-through socket it does not even occupy the socket in which it is inserted.

As did

The case is in white polycarbonate. It does not collect fingerprints and thanks to the satin finish it does not slip off the hands. Structurally it is very simple: the three USB-A ports and the through Schuko socket appear on the front side, on the lower side there is a blue LED that stays on all the time (even when no device is connected) thus signaling the actual presence of current on the socket. Whether you like it or not is subjective: at night it creates its own little glow that weakly illuminates the point of the room it is in.

The rear Schuko plug protrudes just enough to allow us to insert the entire accessory into the sockets at home without problems, or to accompany it to an adapter to convert the plug into an – for example – Italian type. The strong point is the possibility to rotate the plug 180 degrees: in this way the charger can be adapted to any socket, leaving the right space for the appliances connected to the adjacent sockets.

How is it going

We did a couple of tests with our digital ammeter to measure the maximum power of the USB sockets. They are all identical to each other, individually they deliver up to 2A per port while overall they do not go beyond 3.2 A, so if you use all three together you will not be able to recharge a tablet at maximum power (2A) while there are no problems if example you connect a smartphone, an emergency battery and a pair of Bluetooth headphones, or a smartphone and a tablet leaving the third socket free.

Conclusions

The tangles of the cables do not eliminate them, but it significantly reduces the number of power supplies connected to a single socket. In the most complete configuration, it is possible to power an appliance and recharge three devices using the relative cables, taking up very little space on the socket to which it is connected.

The only drawback is the Schuko socket: being in Italy we would have preferred a plug and socket compatible with those of our country.

Retail price

The RavPower trial charger can be bought on Amazon for 15.99 euros.
