Home iPadia iPad Accessories ,,,,, We recently had the opportunity to try RavPower RP-IM005, one of the most practical and pocket-sized Lightning cables currently available on the market. The main feature, however, is not to work in combination with an emergency battery for recharging mobile devices, but rather to add 64 GB of disk space to iPhone and iPad for file storage and backup. .
As did
This cable is just 13 centimeters long and weighs only 14 grams. Basically, once you put it in your pocket, you will forget you have it with you. The credit for this sensation that we experienced on our skin during the test goes to the structure of the cable, which is very particular.
The sheath, 7 centimeters long, in shape resembles that of flat cables, even if in this case we are dealing with a thicker product. Half a centimeter, to be precise, with strongly rounded edges and for a cable that is only 1 centimeter wide in the thinnest part. This part of the cable is flexible, if you want you can also make the two connectors “touch”, but the structure is rigid enough to prevent it from bending excessively when you put it in your pocket, thus avoiding the risk of breaking it.
Regarding the resistance, this product is flawless. Both connectors are in fact reinforced by an aluminum structure. Perhaps too big in the case of the Lightning plug, which will struggle to work with bulkier cases. Instead, it is necessary on the side of the USB plug, as this is where we find the additional memory. The connector is very robust and in some cases hard – but not impossible – to insert into the socket of emergency batteries and computers.
How is it going
This product interfaces with the same iPlugMate application as other RavPower products tested in the past.
From the app it is practically possible to easily view Photos, Videos and Music contained in the device memory and easily transfer them from the latter to the iPhone / iPad and vice versa. With the Files / Folders section you can also view other files such as PDFs, docs, Excel tables and documents of various kinds, while with the Backup tab you can quickly make a copy of photos and contacts on the stick.
Convenient the Camera function, which allows you to record videos or take photos by storing everything directly in the external memory, without taking up precious space on the iPhone.
We measured the performance with the Black Magic Disk Speed Test, with the result that the RavPower RP-IM005 manages to reach up to 33.5 MB / s in writing and 40.1 MB in reading.
In practice, copying (from MacBook Pro retina 15 '' middle 2014) a folder with 138 elements for about 928 MB we took 58 seconds, to copy the same folder from the stick to the desktop (therefore reading) we took 23 seconds. A single 470MB file from the desktop to the stick was copied in 30 seconds, we then took 11 seconds to copy it back to the desktop.
The only thing to keep in mind is that the cable can work for charging iPhones and iPads connected to a power supply, an emergency battery or a computer: with the latter, however, it does not work for data synchronization with iTunes, while it offers rather, access to the files contained in the internal memory as if it were any USB key.
Conclusions
RavPower RP-IM005 is certainly convenient for quick backup of your most important files (photos / videos / address book) at any time to make room on iPhone and iPad. The fact that it is also a Lightning cable is in favor of those who need to use it on the go for charging on the go, obviously being able to be used as an archive for music, videos or other files to be pulled out when needed while traveling without overloading. the memory of the devices.
