Home Reviews ,,,,,If you are looking for an emergency battery with enough capacity to recharge the smartphone over and over again but that is at the same time rather small and handy then consider RavPower RP-PB005, a powerbank that our editorial staff has had the opportunity to try in the past. days.
The strength, as mentioned, is in the size / capacity ratio: it is a 10,000 mAh powerbank that fits in one hand and is capable of recharging two devices at the same time, proving to be an excellent solution for those who need to recharge smartphones and tablets. on the move, taking up as little space as possible.
How it's made
The battery shell is made of satin polycarbonate, apparently very sturdy and resistant to any small bumps. It grips really well due to the strongly rounded edges while the main surface is flat allowing it to be easily placed on any desk or shelf for charging devices.
It has two USB sockets and a microUSB input for battery charging, all on the same side: on the opposite side there is the label with the specifications. Finally, on the front side there is an LED bar to know the residual energy at a glance and the ON / OFF button to turn the powerbank on and off.
As we said, considering the declared capacity of 10,000 mAh, it is really small: specifically it measures 10.8 x 7.7 x 1.9 centimeters, fits in one hand and disappears in the pocket of a coat without attracting attention precisely because of its reduced thickness. The weight is also not excessive: our kitchen scale indicates 260 grams, for comparison about twice the size of the iPhone 7.
How is it going
The battery took the place of our usual power bank for a week. We used it to mostly charge our iPhone 7 although occasionally it was very useful for restoring the power of our friend's iPad mini 3 and iPhone 6s.
Based on our tests, the battery can fully charge an iPhone 7 (from 2–5% to 100%) three times, with enough power to restore about 40% of the same device on a fourth charge. If you use it to charge a tablet like iPad mini 3, the battery is enough to fully restore the device's power once and a few mAh left over to add 10% to the iPhone.
As noted thanks to a digital ammeter, by recharging them together (iPhone and iPad) the battery automatically adjusts the output power by recognizing the device connected to each socket. With the iPhone 7 at 12% and the iPad mini 3 at 19%, the energy is divided equally, with about 1.6A for each. Having exceeded 50% of energy stored on the iPhone 7, the battery gradually increases the charging power on the iPad bringing it to 1.8A while on the iPhone 7 it drops to 1.3A. From 75–80% of the iPhone 7, charging takes place at 0.9–1A while on the iPad mini 3 it is pushed to 2.1A.
The absorption capacity of the microUSB socket of this battery is also very good: it can in fact be recharged at 2A with the right power supply (for example that of an iPad), substantially halving the charging times compared to a battery of equal capacity but with the socket that absorbs only 1A: in fact, it took us about 6 hours to bring it from 0% to 100%.
Conclusions
RavPower RP-PB005 is an excellent battery from the point of view of portability in relation to the capacity offered. It is ideal for recharging your smartphone on the go even more than once a day, perhaps even sharing it with a friend to recharge the two phones at the same time. Especially if you are out all day and often use your smartphone for photos and videos, it is the right companion that will never make you run out of energy until late in the evening: then one night is enough to recharge completely and start over.
