Home Hi-Tech Games and Console probably the first of a new generation that, hopefully, will see the light (at least in Razer).
New generation because the intrinsic technology inside this DeathAdder Elite is very important and promises a second youth for a sector that, unfortunately, has seen in recent years mostly aesthetic and communication innovations (such as the transition from wire to wireless) without offering further improvements over usability. On the other hand, Razer has innovation in its DNA, as the recent acquisition of Nextbit also demonstrates.
Razer DeathAdder Elite, the review
The box and everything you need
The first novelty that this mouse shows is a new construction of the click buttons, now made by Omron, a leading company in the field of engineering and automated processes: the new construction technique of the buttons guarantees greater precision, also expanded to the new (physical) wheel, more precise than the previous ones.
As a matter of fact we can say that the feeling is that the click seems the same, in the sense that if compared to other Razer products such as Mamba (which has a higher category) or the Naga Hex v2 (promptly closer) the feeling does not change, however we have perceived greater safety and fewer involuntary clicks, a fairly important factor in all the occasions, not only in games, the environment for which the mouse was designed.
In addition to this, the keys are guaranteed for 50 million clicks, which for a normal user corresponds to about 320 years of use (something less than half for an average player, about a third for a professional player): on this we must trust, we have not had the opportunity to perform concrete tests over such high time frames, even if we are sure that the real and operational life of a mouse to date does not exceed four or five years.
DeathAdder Elite, the 5G mouse
But the technology in this mouse is far from being tied to the keys only: a ppena under the body, resides a 5G sensor capable of capturing movements at a resolution of 16,000 DPI (adjustable, like the Mamba). To make a comparison, consider that many advanced mice, including Apple's Magic Mouse, do not exceed 3,000) with an active recognition of 450 inches per second.
These values in reality make the movement mouse the exact extension of the arm, in softness as in precision: although Razer is a brand designed for video games, we have appreciated the softness in many factors, from drawing in Illustrator to retouching in Photoshop, in some retouching of movies with iMovie up to the management of several computers via a remote connection (a procedure that is far from easy, because in that case different resolutions convey into one and the mouse sensor at that point operates on a virtualized resolution).
The writer has tried several mice, far more than I have reviewed, but he is not afraid to admit that this mouse, in the joint use with the Gigantus mat (which we talk about below) it is prob cleverly the best so far, for precision of movement and for what concerns the pleasure of use, even greater than more famous names such as the Razer Mamba (which, however, has functions absent here, such as the possibility of being used wirelessly, given that the DeathAdder Elite only works flush).
Last noteworthy feature is the Chroma lighting, now a trademark of Razer, which in the DeathAdder Elite translates into a series of LEDs that illuminate the logo on the back and the wheel in various colors and modes. The lighting is, as in the other cases, controllable via the Synapse drivers.

DeathAdder Elite, beyond the news
In the review of the mouse, in the Razer catalog identified as mid-range, we decided to start from the news because they are actually the most important part in a review that does not see many aesthetic differences compared to to the previous version (still in the price list), however, this does not mean that like all Razer products it is a device built with all the (maniacal) attentions.
Out of the box it is nice to find the letter presentation of Razer that warns you that the choice for a mouse of this type is the one that prevents you from going back (“Congratulation, there is no turning back”) and in the same way is appreciated for the small big details, from the imprinted writing on the USB connector to the removable cable holder, up to the actual USB-A cable, made of woven fabric to avoid knots when put in a bag.
This is a product designed in a way directed for those who practice eSports (on Mac in fact little practiced, although opportunities are not lacking), and for this reason attentive to a whole series of features that will make even less demanding users happy (such as the Polling Rate at 1000 Hz, therefore capable of a dialogue made up of a thousand connections per second with the computer) while for this reason the USB connection was chosen which on the one hand offers greater security, but on the other hand proposes the presence of a wire that for some Mac users is a (unfortunate ) legacy of the past.
We also emphasize the care of the external shape: the buttons are always high (like all Razer mice) in the front, to better rest the fingers, and the shape is perfectly shaped not to follow the hand but to offer a correct positioning, which knows how to offer a rest and a stimulus to use. While not an ambidextrous mouse, it is not uncomfortable even when used with the left hand (although it tends to hang a little to one side).
We close the description of the features with a mention to the Synapse drivers, always precise: from the console it is possible to control practically everything, from lighting to precision, from the use you want to make of the 7 buttons (plus two different optional assignments for wheel movements), also specific for App, to the use of Macros , particularly useful in the shooters or in the strategic ones up to the calibration of the type of mat, in the case of our review with the new Gigantus model.

Gigantus, the (big) right arm
In conjunction with the DeathAdder Elite test we had the opportunity to also try the new Gigantus mat.
This is s basically a square in soft fabric measuring 455 millimeters per side and about 5 in height, composed of two distinct surfaces on the two upper and lower sides: the one that touches the table is green, rubberized and viscous, suitable for preventing the sliding of the carpet while the upper one, soft and synthetic, operates the best ratio to enhance the characteristics of the sensor.
A dialogue between the mouse and the mat is more than intimate given that for get the best performance it is useful to indicate, in the Synapse window, which mat it is (if it does not appear, try to update the drivers).
Let's admit that we were on the one hand a little '' skeptics in the test of a mat (modern sensors no longer need a homogeneous surface to work correctly) on the other, curious to try the real potential of such an accessory together with a sensor so ev as much as that of the DeathAdder Elite. And in fact we were pleasantly impressed both by the fluidity of use that the mouse conquers and also by the pleasure that is felt in using such a soft and comfortable pad, combined with such a large (and error-proof) surface.
To find a defect we can say that we would have liked a shape closer to that of the desks, so rectangular (instead of square), but perhaps this is a subjective indication a small defect of the drivers for which, often after a reboot the assignment is “forgotten” and it is necessary to give it manually (but it is a problem that will be fixed shortly via software).
Conclusions
Even if it is a wire mouse, in this case we are dealing with a product that for profuse technology and quality of yield creates a precedent important, to which Razer is not new. The use is soft, precise, important, professional and really ready for anything, both for a “war between worlds” and for a battle between Excel sheets or Illustrator curves.
The presence of Gigantus mat, which we remember is not mandatory, only enhances the excellent characteristics of the mouse, which in itself offers performance unattainable by other mice (regardless of whether they are requested or not) at a cost that, all in all, we seems acceptable in relation to quality and functions. The wireless connection is a lack of which we have noticed but which in the face of the performance obtained we have not considered fundamental.
Pro : • The shape is very comfortable • The precision is absolute, especially when combined with the Gigantus mat • The new mechanism avoids involuntary clicks
Against: • Connection is USB only
Price: 79.99 Euro
DeathAdder Elite is already available in large technology product chains, but you can also find it on Amazon. it as a Prime product: if you want you can also buy the Gigantus mat, available in normal, black or team edition version (identical in size, only the type and color of the brand changes), also in this case on Amazon.it
