Evolution of one of the best-selling mice ever, the Razer DeathAdder V2 inherits from the previous models the aesthetic characteristics of design (above all) and ergonomics revised in a more current key and with a whole new engine under the hood.
News that are largely inherited from the models presented a few months ago, the Razer Basilisk Ultimate and the Razer Viper Ultimate.

Ten million and don't hear them
Announced a few days ago on our pages, the new Razer DeathAdder V2 brings with it a very heavy legacy: in the history of this mouse you can in fact glimpse the evolution of the Razer brand itself, with its fashions (also dedicated to various games, like this one), technology and design (which should always be by Stephane Blanchard), for a product that has actually entered the history of mice, especially as a gamer.
On the other hand, in 2019 it reached the important milestone of ten million units sold, a really important number for a model that still remains Elite in terms of price and market range.

V2, the wolf loses its fur but not its vice
But let's go in order and take a closer look at this new Razer DeathAdder V2: in the box there is the mouse, an instruction booklet and the now iconic leaflet that welcomes the user “Unleash your true potential (…)” (which in Italian is translates as “Unleash your true potential”).
The mouse is a product for right-handers with a very tapered shape: the accentuated belly, the high front part with an enlargement in the ends recall the design of the Razer DeathAdder Elite, although here it has been revised in detail, as well as the layout of the 8 programmable buttons remained the same, with changes visible only in the two upper ones, now smaller and detached.
The upper surface of the mouse is made from a single porous rigid plastic shell, while on the side there are two bands with inserts in knurled viscose rubber, to improve grip even in extreme conditions, for example with sweaty hands.
The speedflex cable is very practical because it does not twist thanks to the fabric cover and the USB-A connector is provided with a plastic protection for travel (a more aesthetic refinement than anything else).
The feet of the mouse 100% PTFE dominate the lower part, a material typically adopted in non-stick pans that here allows a faster sliding of the mouse in the surfaces, also facilitated by the weight, of only 82 g, twenty less than the Elite version.
The test was carried out on a modern Razer mat, the Gigantus, which improves the performance of each mouse, as well as offering a pleasant to the touch surface, cool in summer and temperate in winter.
Also in the lower part, the profile change button given by the onboard memory (5 profiles) is very practical, even if, as we will see, the system is not yet 100% perfect.
A heart beating at 20,000 DPI
The real novelty of this Razer DeathAdder V2 lies in the internal chip, a 20,000 dpi Focus + optical sensor (already seen in the Razer Basilisk Ultimate and Razer Viper Ultimate), with 650 IPS tracking speed.
The leap from the Elite version, which is the previous generation (anything but old anyway) is remarkable: it is not so much the 20% more resolution that is felt, but how much the accuracy in the track (now 99.6% ), almost impressive.
It is difficult to say how the sensor works inside and if it uses an algorithm capable of learning over time (as can be seen from the, let us say, bad translation of the Italian website) but certainly it is a product capable of leading a very fierce market for precision and accuracy.
Finally, the Smart Tracking function is sensational, which if activated in the Synapse 3 drivers (on which we return shortly) allows the mouse not only to automatically detect the underlying surface and adjust the sensor accordingly, but also to activate the Asymmetrical Cut-Off. , a function that significantly improves the moment in which we raise the mouse to better position it, here capable of recognizing precisely the asymmetry of the movement.
Optical switch
Also in this case the optical switch is not an absolute novelty (it appeared for the first time in the Razer Viper model), but it is really a great convenience.
In theory, the optical switch allows you to avoid the flickering of the Click and increases accuracy, because since there is no real mechanical click (but it is a laser sensor that regulates the crushing), there are no vibrations: in reality it happens that on the one hand we always have safe clicks (very convenient function when we are in a hectic environment where we cannot always have full control and a lot of playing on the hundredth of a second, like in a team game), on the other hand we also like the click noise , here a little different and more “alive” than others.
Synapse 3: beautiful, beautiful but not too much
As with all Razer mice (and a bit of all advanced mice), everything is controlled by the Synapse drivers, a control suite that measures and manipulates any aspect of the mouse, such as a DJ console.
The most striking aspect, visually, is the possibility to intervene on the Chroma brightness, here present in the logo on the back and inside the wheel (in our opinion brighter than in the past, but it could be an impression), being able to use presets of lights already present or others made ad hoc, also synchronized with other Razer devices.

In all honesty, the Synapse drivers are really well done, not only in their detailed form but also in the approach they take to the user, offering a control console that shows the power as you ask, while to whom it does not matter substantially it gives the possibility to ignore it, so much so that on Windows 10 the drivers are installed automatically without even going to the site.
Two things we don't like: the first aspect is definitely the lack of support for macOS, a painful choice on Razer's part, which still leaves the mouse fully functional with any Mac, but lacking all the customizations.
Secondly, we ask ourselves why the lighting effects cannot be stored in the on-board memory when storing presets, which are instead left to local control: this makes little sense because the effects can be very useful, not just beautiful, in fact. how much thanks to Synapse they can be associated with some events (for example, I can indicate that the light turns red when my character is dying, or simply change the color to confirm the change of set).

Considerations
The Razer DeathAdder V2 relaunches itself in a new incarnation that, while offering full support to tradition in design, revolutionizes the technical part with the best on the market today in all its parts, from the sensor to the construction details.
In everyday life the Razer DeathAdder V2 is damn comfortable in all situations, from Luminar to Overwatch, from Fortnite (perhaps with a Razer Tartarus Pro on the other side) to Office 2019, passing through the new Edge Chromium up to the use of Hype, as well as in all apps for Mac and Windows.
The use of the wire is questionable (and it is not excluded that sooner or later we will see a wireless DeathAdder V2 model) but everything else has very few rivals in the market.
At the end of the review of the Razer Basilisk Ultimate we wrote that it was the definitive mouse, a strong and risky statement that we now feel we can only embrace for the wireless models, given that this Razer DeathAdder V2 is today the best corded mouse in the market. , considering all the features of comfort, precision and fit.
For compatibility with macOS we make a reason, but time is on our side: if the rumors of a Mac for gamers are true, maybe Razer will think again.
