Home Hi-Tech Android World ,,,,,Nommo Pro is a 2.1 system from Razer for multi-channel audio at home: designed for gaming, a sector where Razer has now become a reference brand, it offers ideal features even for a small home theater and for listening to music.
In reality, we had already talked about Nommo Pro here on Cyber Layman at the launch at CES in Las Vegas in January, however the product took a while to arrive in our country, preceded by the Nommo Chroma version, of which we have already written.
Razer Nommo Pro, the review
Big is better
When the Nommo Pro arrive, they are contained in a really large and impressive box: on the other hand, between protective packaging and real crates, it could not be otherwise; inside the package, always impeccable as is Razer's tradition, there are the two satellites, the Sub, a Control Pod and the support cables.

The first thing you notice, during the unpacking phase, is the care for all materials: the smooth surface of the satellites is gently accompanied by the porous surface of the Sub and the sweet Hi-tech look of the Control Pod, but what more we were stupid was the nature of the connection cables, very beautiful and precious.
What you understand immediately during installation is that this type of speaker must be thoroughly understood before enjoying all its qualities, which means various positioning and connection tests and the versatility to do it.

The technical characteristics
Technically speaking it is a system of 2.1 full range gaming speakers with THX certification (Razer acquired the THX brand in late 2016) and Dolby Virtual Surround Sound technology, 2 x 0.8 '' silk dome tweeters (1 per speaker), 2 x 3 '' full range drivers (1 for speaker) and subwoofer facing down.
The frequency response is 35-20,000 hz and, as is now standard in the house, also in this case there is Razer Chroma technology, here just below the two speakers.

Compatibility is full with Mac and PC and, as we will see, also with Android and iOS devices: the minimum requirements speak of Windows 7 or Mac OS X 10.9 or higher but basically they work (at a minimum) even with any Jack audio cable system from 3.5 mm.
The only drawback of everything, if we want to find it, is that the connection cables between the two satellites and the Sub are perhaps too short: for example, try on a 55 ″ TV Haier U55H7000 the Sub was positioned immediately next to the TV and not below to the cabinet as it would have been natural, due to the fact that the whole was missing by about ten centimeters. Perhaps it is an extreme case, but a few more centimeters would have helped, even if the value of the cables would have weighed on the final price.
Nommo Pro satellites are not very small
L 'intertwining of exits (and entrances)
The entire system is controlled by the Sub, which houses all the input (power) and output (audio and digital connections) connectors and cables, even if for obvious reasons the control is primarily entrusted to the Control Pod, a small satellite of approx. 6 cm in diameter which houses the on / off control, the volume, the output selection and the Bluetooth pairing button.
Yes, because we can use Nommo Pro as an audio output device starting from a Mac or PC via the USB port, or even via the audio jack (analogue), but also via the optical output or Bluetooth 4.2.

We connected Nommo Pro wirelessly easily to both the Mac (with macOS 10.13 on a 2015 iMac) and an iPhone 8, which greatly facilitates the placement and use of the USB ports, which remain the best but sometimes impractical route.
The control Pod offers a convenient command for all the fundamental functions, including the audio control, often delegated to the latter instead of that of the Mac, with which it synchronizes if via USB even if in this case we have found the 'excursion too short, with audio jumps perhaps too sudden.
Diablo III and Starcraft II recognize the Nommo Pro output and can use it as default
Remote control
Nommo Chroma was controlled in its functions via the Synapse 2.0 drivers but the recent evolution of the latter (now only for Windows, what a pity Razer!) Threatened to cut Mac users out of this delicacy.
Fortunately, at Razer they know that now anyone has a smartphone in their pocket (perhaps a Razer Phone) and it seemed more logical to move the control remotely, as well as with the Control Pod.
The Nommo Pro App for controlling all preferences, here on an iPhone
And here are the Apps for iOS and Android which, once connected via Bluetooth to the Control Pod, replace it in its entirety, increasing the possibilities of intervention.
In fact, the App allows you to turn the system on and off, to select the output port, the audio system (THX, DOLBY, NORMAL), the type of equalization, the type of Chroma lighting, the auto-off and the convenient Mute button.
All in a fairly simple interface that is essentially the evolution of the one already seen on Nabu and Hammerhead that focuses mainly on usability rather than impact.
We honestly liked the solution a lot although, in all honesty, we would have liked to have all the controls on the Control Pod as well.
How does she feel
Once the connection and functioning didactics are finished, longer than we expected when we started the exam, we move on to the more central one of the audio.
We tried Nommo Pro in various situations: with an iMac 27 with satellites both on the side of the screen (USB) and behind the user (Bluetooth), as well as next to the TV (optical) or even on a larger desk, with the new MacBook Pro (Bluetooth / USB).
The first positive note is that in no case, not even via Bluetooth, have we been affected by audio dysfunctions which were always clear and homogeneous.
As for the various sets, we can say that for the games we tested (Torchlight 2, Diablo III, Starcraft II, Tomb Rider and Overwatch via Parallels) we liked the Nommo pro in the THX version the most, with very deep bass. (sometimes able to shake the table if the diver leans on it) and a very good recreation of the setting (praise to Blizzard for Diablo III, the title that most impressed us in this sense).
The Sound System Preference on macOS High Sierra, which sees Nommo Pro correctly The selection can of course also be done from the Volume control in the menu bar
As for the movies better Dolby, otherwise the THX bass covered too much some talk while for the music we indulged in the equalizations of the mode that we define “normal” (actually it seems that a name does not have it).
Here surely has a lot to do with personal taste and the ability to evaluate the audio return based on the construction of the room, and we also had to do some satellite positioning tests to better understand how to optimize everything.
It must be said that the Subwoofer is very important and the bass is very accurate, making the sounds very full-bodied, so much so that in the musical sessions we have deliberately contained the answer.
The only note concerns the tweeters, perhaps subdued compared to the rest.
Nommo Pro against Nommo Chroma
It is not a comparison that holds up from any point of view, but we put it anyway because some readers, in particular seeing the price (499 Euros for the Nommo Pro and 169 Euros for the Nommo Chroma with even an entry level price of 110 Euros for le Nommo in normal edition) might think the products are similar.
The difference between Nommo Pro (left) and Nommo Chroma can also be seen when switched off: the first ones are larger and differently inclined, they also show the dedicated tweeters
This similarity is, to be honest, only aesthetic: Nommo Chroma offers 2 3-inch full range drivers with frequency response of 50-20,000 Hz, USB or analog port and manual control, Nommo Pro offers 2 3-inch full range drivers with 2 x 0.8-inch tweeters and 1 subwoofer with frequency response of 35-20,000 hz, USB / Analog / Optical and Bluetooth connection, analog and wireless control.
Basically two products that are intended for different solutions: interesting computer-oriented audio for games and music the first, multipurpose multi-channel audio solution for games, music, movies adaptable to any device in the house, with wireless control.
Considerations
Nommo Pro is a complete, (very) versatile product with a full-bodied, certified and full audio response. Most of all it is a product that offers great satisfaction both from the visual point of view (like all Razer products, which do not go unnoticed) and from the smartest one, with the different connection possibilities, easily sequenced via the smartphone apps.
The Chroma effect of the Nommo Pro is interesting as always but here content and present only at the base of the satellites
In the market there are similar products that do in part what Nommo Pro manages to do, but not with the same immediacy and completeness, and obviously if we include the videogame aspect, here very refined, we realize that we are dealing with an almost product. one of a kind.
The price is basically in line with the competition, even if to see the details Nommo has something more.
