NFTs have rapidly gained ground in a world that didn't know what to do with overflowing digital content. A few days after the news that Twitter will allow to set an NFT as a profile image; also Reddit seems to have jumped on the bandwagon. According to TechCrunch, the social network is evaluating the possibility of using NFTs as profile images.
According to the report, Reddit is already testing the new function in its offices, and it would allow us to set any NFT as a profile image; that is, we will not necessarily have to use the 'CryptoSnoos' from Reddit. However, it is not yet known what treatments the social network will give these tokens.
The function is not yet public for users of the platform, and is still in a fairly early stage of development. However, the Reddit spokesperson has shed some light on the intention to include NFTs in the profiles of the social network.
We're always exploring ways to provide value to users and communities on Reddit. We are currently testing the possibility of using NFTs as profile pictures (avatars) and verifying ownership. This is a small internal test and no decision has been made on scaling or deployment.

Reddit had already shown interest in NFTs
'CryptoSnoos', Reddit's NFT coin This is not the first time that Reddit has tried to jump on the NFT bandwagon. In the middle of last year, the company launched its 'CryptoSnoos', an Etherium-based NFT that was released in limited quantities. This foray into the world of cryptocurrencies was received in a mixed way by users of the platform; while some expressed concern about the high prices, others dismissed the novelty as “idiocy“.
But Reddit is not the only one interested in this new sector. YouTube has joined Twitter and Meta in their interest in NFTs, and they are looking for ways to integrate them into their platform. On the other hand, Reddit has not commented on which blockchains will be supported by the social network; there are still many details to discover.
