Sabinetek AudioWow review, the magic lighter for those who make music or streaming on iPhone and Android

It looks like a stylish little lighter, as big as an iPad connector, but Sabinetek AudioWow hides a lot of technology inside and a not indifferent set of aids for different professional profiles who use audio on iPhone or Android for work.

Oh yes, with Sabinetek AudioWow you don't play, even if some aspects are quite fun.

    A Zippo for music

Actually Sabinetek AudioWow is smaller than a Zippo lighter, but there is no doubt that it remembers it: the 45x25x7 mm measures are slim and from time to time we had the nightmare of losing it, however it is normal that a device destined to hang on the shirt be so thin.

Inside the box, stop next to a pair of earphones, a microphone protector and a USB-C / USB-A cable for charging. The use of the internal earphones is of course optional, as it works with all headphones with an analog audio jack.

In fact, we put it to the test with a pair of Sony MDR-XB550APs, with the Razer Kraken and also with a pair of flush Apple EarPods, with substantially homogeneous results.

    What does it do

Basically, Sabinetek AudioWow is an external sound card for smartphones / tablets capable of simultaneously managing the incoming audio from the connected headphones, the built-in microphone and mixing everything with the App for iOS and Android, which acts as a control center and from mixer.

In a nutshell, it allows you to transform a pair of analog headphones into Bluetooth headphones, to have a monitor in the headphones of your voice, to obtain a Noise canceling effect, not to mention the mixer in the App, which adds many other capabilities.

Let's get rid of the doubt immediately, because it's the same one who wrote these lines when he saw for the first time the AudioWow page on Kickstarter: no, the use of a real Bluetooth headset with Noise Canceling is not the same, the concept it is very different.

    How does it work

Once you connect an analog headset to Sabinetek AudioWow and have paired it with your smartphone, you unlock a whole host of incredible features in such a small object.

First of all, the App analyzes the audio coming from the microphone of the headphones and compares it with the ambient one coming from the AudioWow microphone, thus obtaining an interesting comparison that can be mixed in various ways.

The ambient microphone allows the Noise Canceling effect (via software, but completely believable), canceling all external noises from the audio returning to the headphones.

Secondly, it allows you to use the headphones as an audio monitor (in practice to hear your voice clearly): together with the Noise Canceling effect mentioned above, this offers a clean audio even if we speak outside, without ambient noise ( such as wind, engines, environment).

A small digital mixer allows you to modulate your voice into five effects, apply reverb and control every single aspect of the recording which can obviously be both audio and video.

Basically, if you do interviews it's like having a small professional studio attached to your shirt.

    More

But while they were there, those of Sabinetek have done even more: the App of the same name (not yet publicly available while we are writing this article, since we were able to try the sound card in full preview) allows much more.

For example, in addition to recording the mixed incoming audio, and organizing it in a similar way to Apple's Voice Memos, Sabinetek AudioWow also allows you to filter iPhone voice calls, recording them in audio format (MP3, AAC and Wav) and, drum roll, also performing a text transcription of the recorded audio, dividing the two tracks (input and output), with good results, but with room for improvement.

Finally, if by starting a song from the smartphone, it is possible to sing over it as a kind of karaoke, since the App tries to neutralize the voice of the songs (in real time) leaving only the music and, of course, recording our voice in a separate channel.

    Considerations

Sabinetek AudioWow is a little gem, able to help you with a lot of tasks but which, being very specialized, requires skilled hands that know how to tame it.

We liked it a lot, we don't have a singing nature but in our work it will help us a lot in interviews, as well as in some phone calls that are good to record for safety or to make subsequent transcriptions.

    Pros:

    • Small and very light • NC effect via software • Record and mix audio inputs

    Cons:

    • Improved audio transcription • The App is good but sometimes not very intuitive

    Price:

    • 179 Dollars (now pre-orderable at 109 Dollars)

At the time of writing, AudioWow is available exclusively as a project on Kickstarter and can be pre-ordered for about $ 109 ( about $ 97 Euro ), with a significant saving on the final price fixed at $ 179 at the end of the campaign. A quick exchange of emails with the developers who have ensured that the product will soon arrive on Amazon (at full price): we promise to update the price and link when it becomes available.
