SanDisk tries again with iXpand Wireless Charger, after a first incarnation made of good ideas at the wrong time, here is the new, definitive, incarnation of the perfect butler for iPhone (and Android).
We tried it for a couple of weeks both on the road and in the office: the App is young and can grow, but everything already works wonderfully so that once set, you forget about it, letting everything happen automatically.

Two is better than one
iXpand Wireless Charger is the second incarnation of a SanDisk project that started a couple of years ago with a corded charging base and arrived (finally) today with a wireless base.
Basically, it is a device that thanks to a wireless power supply is able to charge a smartphone compatible with Qi (from iPhone 8 onwards, practically all current high-end Android), while through a mixture of Bluetooth and Wi -Fi copies photos and contacts to the large internal memory.
A very interesting project for many reasons: because on iOS the copying of photos is free but up to 5 GB in total, because copying to iCloud takes place only via Wi-Fi, not always available, because for those who take a lot of photos a local copy can be a blessing sometimes but above all because the phone charges the same, we might as well make an extra backup.
The recharge also takes place with a case, as long as it is in a non-insulating material and with a thickness of less than 3 millimeters
White is better
Compared to the old iXpand Base, the new SanDisk iXpand Wireless Charger changes a lot, first of all in appearance. Now dominates the white color and a larger surface (about double the previous one).
The appearance is certainly more modern and in Apple style, needless to deny it, although it also works very well with the Android platform.
Inside the box there is the base, the power supply (with double Italian and international socket) and a skimpy instruction booklet: actually a QRCode would be enough to download the App, which once opened guides the user through the steps foreplay, simple but to be done calmly.
All inclusive
The operation is really trivial: you need a little attention and patience during the first configuration in defining the connections via Bluetooth with the phone and via Wi-Fi, for the fastest copy, but then everything is done automatically.
And when we say automatically, we mean it: just place the phone on the base and voila, it starts charging and at the same time it also starts the backup in the internal memory, in a flash.

If you really want to participate you can check that the small purple LED is on, as it indicates operation, but the iXpand Wireless Charger will take care of the rest.
In one of the short sides, right next to the power connector, there is a small MicroUSB connector, which is used to mount the internal memory as a disk on the Mac desktop from which to easily take photos.
And if you have multiple phones, you just need to create several accounts so that the base recognizes them (creating an account is not mandatory if you only have one phone).
Considerations
The new SanDisk iXpand Wireless Charger is really a very interesting product, one of those things that those who travel (and photograph) a lot with iPhones should always have in their bags (even if it is not very small).
On the desk it fits perfectly, as well as on the bedside table, with an elegance that never hurts in such a product, together with a truly impeccable service.
The App, tested on the iPhone 8, was complete but young, at times all too elementary and with ample room for growth but already functional and completely transparent in use.
Finally, the price: considering the presence of an integrated memory, the quality of the service (and which takes place automatically) and the charging platform, basically in line with what we expected. SanDisk arrives late in this market, but it gets there in style. The product is good and solid and can become the best friend of your new iPhone 11 (and not only).
