Skype is one of the longest-running video and voice calling platforms ever , and in recent years it hasn't proposed any particular innovations to keep up completely with other competitors emerged recently, especially following the spread of social distancing. This though is about to change .
Skype has in fact announced a series of interesting news , there are really many and this probably makes the update that is about to arrive as the most consistent of the last years. We essentially talk about graphic customization , renewal of the interface and software optimization . All versions of Skype will be affected, including those for Android and iOS . Let's see the main news together:
- Call interface update . All participants, even those who do not activate the video, will be shown in the main grid. Those who do not turn on the video will still have a custom background instead of the standard gray.
The grid view is still customizable through the relative pop-up options.
- The themes are coming . These are both the dark mode and the light theme but also further graphic customizations based on the predominant color tone. These will also involve your own icon, if you don't set a personal image as your avatar.
- Update of the interface also for chats, the upper bar relating to the personal profile and the fluent icons.
- Live wallpapers, Togheter mode, call recording and live subtitles.
- Meet Now , the new call mode to meet virtually in the shortest possible time. You will not need the installed app, just as there will be no need to create an account.
- Support for all browsers , especially Edge, Chrome, Opera and Safari.
- Here comes Office Lens on Android and iOS .
- Mode TwinCam to show the your pets.
- Customizing notification sounds .
- Update of reactions to calls.
At the moment Skype has not indicated exactly when all the novelties described will arrive. Some are already available , such as Togheter mode or animated wallpapers, while the others are expected with an update of the respective versions of the Skype app.
