Have you noticed that the Google Assistant has gotten a little slower ? The speed at which the Google Assistant responds to a command depends on many factors, including the hardware of the phone and the speed of the network. But there is another one that could affect : having the Assistant configured on too many devices , even those that are no longer active.
Google is aware of this issue and is implementing a new setting in the Google app to allow users to remove easily unused devices. The settings page mentions that removing unused devices will give “a faster experience”. The page lists all the devices on which you have used the Google Assistant previously. By default, the list only shows devices that have not been used for three months or more . But you can also order it to view devices used in the last month or week.
- Make sure you are using the latest version of the Google app.
- Open the Google app and click on the profile icon located in the upper left corner.
- Click on Settings and from there select Google Assistant .
- On the Assistant settings page Google, scroll down until you see “Devices ”
- At the bottom of the “Devices” page, a new section called “Remove unused device ” will appear. Click on it.
- From here, you can choose which devices with the assistant you want to remove. Click on the “All devices” box to select them all or select them manually one by one.
- After selecting the devices, click on the blue button “remove” in the lower right corner to complete the process. Please note that doing so will also remove the Google account from those devices and restore them to factory default settings.
It is unclear how a difference this can make, however, if you have noticed some slowness in the assistant, you could try. Please let us know what you think.
