Home Reviews ,,,,,Cyber Layman tried Anker SoundCore Mini 2, an updated version of the SoundCore Mini that we reviewed some time ago and that we particularly liked for quality and power in relation to a competitive price and very compact size.
The new model maintains the appearance almost unchanged but is much better from a construction point of view and audio quality: there is no longer the built-in FM radio and the microSD slot to read music from an external card also disappears but it can be coupled. to another speaker to enable stereo features and is much easier to use.
As did
Anker SoundCore Mini 2 is, as its name suggests, very small. Cylindrical in shape, it measures 7.6 cm in height and 6.6 cm in diameter. The whole body is immediately appreciated, in brushed aluminum, including the upper grille that protects the speaker, also in metal.
The base is made of plastic, on the other hand, where we find the operating LED and the On / Off, (-), (+) and Play / Pause buttons, as well as the Bluetooth button with dedicated LED to turn off the wireless connectivity or activate the Stereo mode. Along the base there is also the hole for the microphone while on the back, well protected by a thick rubber cover, there are the microUSB inputs for internal charging and the AUX socket for audio connection via 3.5mm jack cable.
On the base we find a rubber ring – 1mm thick – which ensures excellent stability on slippery surfaces. The latter is finally surrounded by a grille that lets the passive radiator breathe.
How does it work
It is mainly a Bluetooth speaker, to accompany wireless music listening to smartphones, tablets and computers, but it can also work with the cable connection – a cable that is not included in the package – to an MP3 player, an old CD player or an even older cassette player.
Keeping the Bluetooth button pressed for three seconds activates the Stereo mode, which allows you to pair the speaker to its twin. This is a function that we have not been able to experiment as we have received only one sample for testing but which, according to the user manual, allows you to separate the sounds of the left and right speakers, perfectly recreating a stereophonic sound.
As anticipated, thanks to the built-in microphone it is also possible to manage hands-free phone calls. It behaves better if the speaker is not used at maximum volume: in this condition the interlocutor perceives our slightly cavernic voice.
It can also work to talk to the voice assistant. Just keep the Play button pressed to activate Siri and launch the command. This function can certainly prove useful when we have to launch occasional commands, such as starting a playlist, weather information or reading a received SMS.
How it sounds
In the face of decidedly portable dimensions, music reproduction amazes for its excellent sound performance and incredible power. Approaching the hand to the driver, a little less than one centimeter of the latter you perceive the movement of air on the palm while completely occluding the speaker, the hand vibrates consistently, thanks to the excellent performance of the passive radiator which makes an excellent I work above all at the maximum volume of the case.
In general, this speaker is appreciated for its excellent precision in the reproduction of the entire sound spectrum, especially with rock, dance and pop songs. It loses slightly with classical music, which to our ear seemed slightly “darker” than what, for example, the speaker of our iPhone ensures.
All in all, however, it sounds very good and for the power at maximum volume it finds space in more than one context, from the occasional musical accompaniment at home and, given the extreme portability, even outdoors during a picnic or while there. relaxes at the lake, in the park or on the beach, above all because unlike its predecessor it is certified to withstand water jets (IPX7 certification).
Conclusions
Anker SoundCore Mini 2 is a great choice for those looking for a robust, powerful and extremely portable speaker. These are in fact the main characteristics that distinguish it from other speakers of similar size. Autonomy is another point in favor of a speaker that actually fits in one hand: it ensures over 15 hours of music listening, practically double that of many other such compact speakers.
