Spigen Essential F306W Review, Powerful and affordable wireless charger

Home Hi-Tech Android World ,,,,, Spigen is one of the most important and appreciated companies worldwide for the quality of its products, in relation to the cost. After having launched with excellent cases and protective films like those for the iPhone X that we have just reviewed, try to do the same thing, combining quality with price, even in the wireless charger sector, which has become much wider with the release of iPhone 8 and iPhone X in 2017. The Spigen Essential F306W stands out for its sober design and attention to some manufacturing details, as well as for the brand specialized in accessories.

    Nice, but can be improved

The aesthetic of the product is undoubtedly sober, in practice a circle of 88 mm in diameter by 16 in depth. The whole is made of dark metal with two upper and lower black rubber circles: the first serves to adhere well to the surface of the table, the second to offer a bed for the smartphone. The use of metal is already something that separates Spigen from the many Chinese producers that we have had the opportunity to present in recent months and provides the product with a quality appearance.

On the front there is a small LED that indicates the operation of the Spigen Essential in different colors: Red (indicating that the phone or the object being charged is not compatible), orange (charging from 5 to 7.5W) and Green ( 9W recharge).

Behind there is the MicroUSB connector: we would have liked a USB-C. At the moment, however, there are no wireless chargers with Type-C, on the other hand there are also very few that use, like Spigen, a braided fabric cable. This is an appreciable aesthetic and functional choice: the cable is very beautiful and never tangles.

During the tests the wireless charger only worked with its supplied power supply, if connected to an iMac 27 or a MacBook Pro the only feedback was the red LED light indicating malfunction. This is probably because it needs an input with a higher voltage than that of the standard USB port.

The instructions for the charger state attention for charging with phones only in standby, orders that we have taken literally.

    Performance

During the tests we carried out with an iPhone 8 and with a Samsung Galaxy S8, we noticed that while the Galaxy (which by the way uses all 9W of power while iPhone is limited to 7.5W) matches very well, the iPhone suffers from positioning issues and just touch and move it a little to make charging more difficult. It is possible that this is due to the particular positioning of the charging spirals, or the Spigen accessory or those of the iPhone. The fact remains that you have to be more precise with this charger than with others if you want to charge iPhone.

The rubber support makes positioning comfortable even if the phone does not have a case: speaking of these, no problem with all the cases we tried, from rubber to plastic ones, while those with inserts obviously did not work. i metal.

As for the charging times, we report an explanatory screenshot below, but we can say that with the iPhone 8, the model on which we have carried out the most accurate tests, the fast charge is there and is in the average we expected.

The phone went from 16 to 47% in an hour, while charging from scratch took two hours to reach 50% and another two and a half hours (almost) to fully charge). Taking into account that an iPhone with cable recharges completely in about 1.40 hours, we are certainly not facing negligible performance.

Recall that these statistics are indicative, because wireless charging is subject to many disturbing factors such as temperature, wireless networks present and smartphone activity in the meantime, remembering that Apple has also reduced the charging speed in the final phase in order not to overheating the phone.

    Considerations

Spigen Essential is beautiful and sober, and the attention to some details such as the USB cable is commendable, for a product that is currently on offer on Amazon for just over 30 Euros. Some details such as the precision needed in positioning the iPhone (with Galaxy everything is much simpler) and the dependence on the power supply that you find in the box, are two things to keep, but overall it is a product that offers itself with an excellent value price / performance. The cost is lower than that of top products, compared to which it does not lose speed, and is only slightly higher than that of low-quality products. And it is on this aspect that Spigen certainly aims.

    It costs 32.99 euros
