Home Hi-Tech Android World ,,,,,In the immense panorama of bluetooth speakers for smartphones and tablets, there is still something that tries to stand out: it is the case of the new TaoTronics speaker, put to the test in these days that does not deny anything: low price and some touch of originality and refinement in design, with unusual materials for such a peripheral: linen and imitation leather.
How it is made
It is the aesthetics of the TaoTronics speaker that steal the show as soon as the package is opened. The speaker has dimensions and weight very similar to all other peripherals of the same type, equal to 20.8 x 7.2 x 7.2 cm, with a weight of just over half a kilo. In short, it can be transported easily, but considering its aesthetics, it is designed to be at home rather than on a lawn for a picnic. As already mentioned, in fact, the loudspeaker is entirely covered in linen, gunmetal gray color, while on both sides an elegant imitation leather covering hides the AUX input and the MicroUSB connector for charging.
Overall, the aesthetics are pleasant, even elegant: the experiment of linen, mixed with leather, is certainly successful and also makes the product original and personal, very different from other peripherals of the same type and belonging to the same price range.
Also pleasant are the keys on the upper part, thanks to which it is possible to turn the speaker on / off, change track and increase / decrease the volume; in addition, the multifunction key, represented by the Play icon, also allows you to answer calls. The push-button panel is well positioned, with buttons perfectly applied to the linen: the loudspeaker is also solid from the construction point of view.
How it sounds
A really interesting and original aesthetic is contrasted by a rather standard quality. The speaker offers 16 watts of power, but the fabric that surrounds it attenuates the sounds a bit. They are not too muffled, but slightly compressed. Overall, however, the volume is still full-bodied and deep, enveloping with quality bass and intensity typical for this type of device. The singers' voices are always clearly perceptible, but even in this case the linen layer that wraps the case slightly acts as a shield.
The volume is quite loud, and even at maximum it doesn't seem to distort that much. In short, it is possible to set the volume almost to the top for listening in very large rooms, without losing too much quality. Obviously, we are still talking about a low-end speaker, and if we consider that part of the price of 44 euros was certainly invested in materials, it is easy to understand that there is little left for the technical sector. Nevertheless, the quality is absolutely in line with the price, and with all other similar peripherals.
The speaker also has a built-in microphone. By pressing the Play button you can answer incoming calls, even if for a pleasant conversation it is necessary to remain absolutely close to the cash desk to let your voice reach the interlocutor sufficiently. The built-in battery allows for over 10 hours of playback, not exactly exciting. Perhaps by optimizing volume and use, this threshold can be exceeded, but it seems rather unlikely that we can reach the 24 hours advertised by the manufacturer.
Fast and always punctual, however, is the pairing between cash desk and mobile devices, thanks to Bluetooth 4.2 technology. in any case, the range within which it plays perfectly is always the canonical one of 10 meters.
Conclusions
Beautiful to look at, with a truly original and different look. Linen and leather finishes guarantee a touch of class and elegance. The sound quality is average, considering that it is still a low-mid-range speaker.
