For those who love modern style, and are looking for different shades of light, to be adapted to any time of day, the LED ones are certainly among the most attractive. It is the case of that of TaoTronics, which we have tried in recent days.
Let's start with aesthetics and materials. The lamp is almost entirely made of metal, except for small plastic inserts; to the aspect it is really elegant, due to the matting treatment of the surface. Very nice even to the touch, it immediately returns a feeling of extreme solidity. It will also, and above all, for the weight of 2.5 kg. It is really solid and robust, even if with a very minimal and elegant design, not between. On the lower part, the eye-catching control panel, backlit, with a contrast between black and white LEDs, which is particularly noticeable. Many, many, the functions that can be adjusted using this soft touch keypad. It works well, and during our tests it constantly recognized, without ever failing, all our touches.
The lamp is extremely functional. The main body, in fact, has several joints. The first, at the base, in addition to being able to be rotated 180 degrees, also allows the lamp to be tilted by 145 degrees, while the upper joint allows for a further 180 degree flexion. Last but not least, the upper part where the LED is present can be oriented and turned 180 degrees. From this point of view it is one of the most complete, because it can easily illuminate any part of the room, being able to easily avoid that the light beam hits the eyes directly.
Many modes
The control panel, in addition to being beautiful to look at, is particularly functional. Each symbol has its own function. In addition to the on / off button, it is possible, through the icons with the coffee cup and the book-shaped one, to change light modes, from the warmest to the coldest. Each of these, in turn, can be adjusted to 6 different brightness levels. In short, even from this point of view we must remain absolutely satisfied. And again, the fourth icon allows you to immediately recall your preferred lighting mode: just set the light mode you prefer, and keep your finger on the heart-shaped icon to set a preferred light option. The fifth icon, on the other hand, allows you to set a timer: just touch it to make the light go out after 60 minutes. Finally, the sixth icon activates a secondary light, not LED, with the function of a “light point” for the night.
As if the superior functions were not enough to make it the top desk lamp, there is also a smart USB port, with 2V output, which allows you to recharge smartphones and tablets at the maximum possible speed. Once again all that remains is to be absolutely satisfied by the device, which does not lend itself to possible criticism of any kind.
If we want to be picky, we could argue that there is no mechanical power button, which is why we must hope that the soft touch system will hold up for a long time: in consideration of the constructive quality of the lamp, however, there is no reason to fear. some malfunction.
Conclusions
The TaoTronics desk lamp doesn't really seem to have any weaknesses: solid construction, elegant design, excellent light quality, lots of options to illuminate your room, USB port for charging smartphones or tablets, and light point for the night. It could be argued that the cost is higher than many other peripherals of the same type, but it should be noted that it is worth everything it costs.
