Tesla has opened up all Superchargers in the Netherlands so they can be used by any electric vehicle of any brand. The opening of the network began with a pilot test in a few chargers in that country. They later expanded it to a limited set of points in France and Norway.
But now all Superchargers located in the Netherlands have opened. The change is confirmed by the official Tesla map where they show the location of each of the charging points in their network. According to a supporting document, it is maintained as a pilot program, limited to people with an electric car who live in the following countries:
HollandFranceNorwayGermanyBelgium That means that, in theory, if a person with a non-Tesla electric vehicle, who lives in Spain, travels to France, the Netherlands or Norway and tries to charge in a Supercharger that participates in the pilot program, it will not be possible. Probably the control is done through the billing address of the payment method.
The irreversible opening of the Tesla Superchargers network
This confirms what many of us suspected: the company will open all the charging points of all its Superchargers to any electric vehicle. It doesn't look like they will reserve some poles for Tesla owners. It is possible that in peak times they do, but at the moment there is no information about it.
In fact, in the support document they indicate what the advantages are, as a Tesla owner, when using the Superchargers network. Price, preconditioning and route planning:
As a Tesla driver, you'll benefit from seamless vehicle and charging station integration, optimized route planning, and battery preconditioning. With your Tesla, you will also have access to the lowest Supercharger prices.
Tesla vehicle owners will have to get their heads around two things:
The Supercharger network is becoming a business for Tesla. It will, over time, be extremely important and in practical terms they will compete not only with other car manufacturers, but also with companies that operate charging points. Having a Tesla does not guarantee or give you any priority in the use of charging points in a Supercharger of the company. This exclusivity has been enjoyed for years, but it will probably end before the end of 2022.
How to use a Supercharger with a non-Tesla vehicle
Tesla is trying to make the charging experience as simple as possible on the Supercharger network for vehicles of other brands. All you have to do is download the company's app, create an account, add a payment method, connect the hose, select the pole to use and start charging.
The prices for using the Tesla Supercharger network for vehicles of other brands is higher . The charge is per kWh used and varies depending on the country, location of the charging point and date on which it is made.
Those owners who have a Tesla vehicle and need to charge a car that is not from the company, do not need to create another account, enter other payment information or make additional settings.
