The new mode is called “Manager Challenges” and was requested and expected when the game was released in the summer of 2016.
Manager Challenges allow any player to challenge friends or any other player at any time. The Pokémon Go website explains: «Using a challenge code you can challenge another Trainer, create a team of three Pokémon and find out which of you will be the winner.
