CNN has announced that on April 30th it will close CNN +, the ambitious subscription streaming platform dedicated to in-depth analysis that was launched just a few weeks ago. Although the launch of CNN + was billed as “CNN's biggest moment since Ted Turner launched the network in June 1980,” the service had struggled to gain subscribers and persuade audiences. The decision was made by the new organization that controls CNN, Warner Bros. Discovery, recently formed from a merger between Discovery and the company that controlled the broadcaster, WarnerMedia.
CNN said people who had subscribed to the service will receive a refund and added that Andrew Morse, the head of the initiative and digital section of the company, will leave his role after a transition period.
