Among the effects of Covid-19 , the increase in the time that Italian children spend online. The figure, without including distance learning, has increased of 67%. To highlight the phenomenon was the survey carried out by the Institute “Piepoli” and illustrated by “Moige” (Italian Parents Movement) on the occasion of the project “Young Ambassadors for digital citizenship against bullying and cyber risk”.
I the greatest increase occurred in the islands (76%); followed by the south (74%) and the north (71%). As a consequence of the phenomenon, 87% of parents experienced negative effects, including the loss of physical contact with others. There is also a downside: several parents, in fact, have recognized that technological devices have allowed their children to maintain social relationships during the pandemic.
To allow children to use social media and the internet correctly, the “Young Ambassadors” project was launched, which will involve 250 primary and secondary schools of I and II degree in about 200 municipalities throughout Italy, 1,250 teachers trained through online platform and meetings at school and 125,000 parents of students informed through dedicated teaching material.
Subsequently, the referent teacher of the project will choose 5 or more students who, after having trained on the platform, will become “Young Ambassadors” to transmit their knowledge to their peers through the peer to peer education .
The goal, we read in a note , will be “to spread a digital culture focusing on the importance of correct use of social media, the network as well as on the risks associated with improper use of new technologies and to promote greater awareness of cyber risks among minors “.
