To get a new smartphone, there are those who are waiting for the latest iPhone model, those who have saved up a little money and those who want to get it as a gift for an important occasion. But not always the purchase of a smartphone can be programmed: sometimes what we have is simply broken or lost and we have to buy a new one in a short time. And since if it happens it happens unexpectedly, it does not mean that we are ready to spend a fortune to get the model we like best. For these cases and for those who in general do not want to spend too much money on a phone, there are brands that over the years have decided to focus their offer on good quality products at affordable prices.
According to tech site The Verge, the best budget smartphones around are from Motorola, a brand that may sound a bit outdated to some but has stood out in recent years for the quality of its mid-range phones. Last year Motorola launched the Moto G7 series, of which The Verge recommends the base model, which costs 250 euros and is interesting above all for the quality of the screen, and the Moto G7 Power which has a battery that lasts up to three days. and right now on Amazon it has a very affordable price (170 euros against 250 of the list price). Moto G7 is also among the best budget smartphones reviewed by Wirecutter, the influential New York Times review site.
The first feature of Motorola Moto G7 is the 6.2-inch screen, in 19: 9 format and full HD (2270 x 1080 pixels), larger than all other previous Motorola models (to be clear, the screen of the iPhone 11 is 6.1 inch). Even though the screen is larger, the bezels are kept to a minimum, resulting in the phone having a sleek design and being easy to handle. In general, however, it is not a particularly light or thin phone: it weighs 172 grams, is 15.7 centimeters high, 7.5 centimeters wide and 8 millimeters thick. Both the front and the back are in Gorilla Glass (a particular glass often used for smartphones because it is thin, light and resistant) and you can choose between black and white.
The camera is double, in the sense that there is a main 12 megapixel camera and a secondary 5 megapixel camera which is used above all for details in the case of portraits, producing blurry effects of the background and giving a sense of greater depth of the frame. With the dual camera of Moto G7 you can also take videos with 4K resolution.
On the front there is a third 8 megapixel camera for selfies. The Verge, however, says the Moto G7's camera is what reminds you that you're using a low-end phone: in fact, even though the quality of the photographs taken in daylight is high, the effect is less good when you shoot in low light conditions, and photos taken with the front camera do not always come out razor sharp.
The phone's memory, the one that allows you to save photos, documents and applications, is 64 GB but can be extended by inserting an SD memory card up to 512 GB. For those in the know, The Verge says that the biggest upgrade over previous models is Qualcomm's Snapdragon 632 processor which combined with 4GB RAM makes the phone quick to switch between apps.
In the package there is a 15 watt TurboPower USB-C charger, which in fact recharges the phone very quickly: after just 15 minutes of charging you get an autonomy of about 8 hours. A full charge, on the other hand, makes the phone last quietly until the end of the day (the battery is 3000 mAh).
For those who need a phone with greater autonomy, the Moto G7 Power model is practically the same as the Moto G7 but has an enhanced battery (5000 mAh), as the name suggests. According to Motorola it lasts up to two full days and can go up to three, for example by keeping the brightness low and choosing other energy saving options.
Due to the upgraded battery, however, this model is a bit thicker and heavier than the Moto G7. Compared to the Moto G7, the Moto G7 Power also has a lower resolution screen: still 6.2 inches but with 1570 x 720 pixels. It's not an insurmountable flaw, says The Verge, if you're not a sharp-edged fanatic. On Amazon at the moment G7 Power has a very advantageous price: it costs 170 euros, about 70 euros less than the list price.
