The new Amazon TVs will be compatible with AirPlay 2 to play music, photos or videos from an iPhone or iPad

Today Amazon formally launched its new lines of smart TVs. These are the Fire TV Omni and Fire TV 4-series , which were presented at the beginning of last September. One of the interesting features that the company mentioned in the announcement is that the models of both lines will be compatible with AirPlay 2 .

This means that the new Amazon TVs will be able to play multimedia content that is sent wirelessly from an iPhone or iPad . The feature is not yet available, but the company promises to add it “soon” through an update. Once Apple technology is available, users will be able to send music, photos and videos to televisions through their smartphone or tablet.

It is worth noting that this will not be the first time that Amazon will support AirPlay 2 on televisions under the name Fire TV. In the middle of this year it had added this option to the “4K UHD Smart Fire TV” equipment manufactured by Toshiba and Insignia, and launched in 2020. The peculiar fact is that these models also received support for HomeKit , to control them through Siri, among other possibilities.

For now, it is not known if compatibility with HomeKit will also reach the Fire TV Omni and Fire TV 4-series from Amazon, although it would not be unusual for it to do so. The Verge takes it for granted, but the official announcement of the US company mentions only the next addition of AirPlay 2 .

Amazon smart TVs expand their possibilities

With the arrival of support for AirPlay 2, Amazon TVs will take a significant leap in quality in integration with other devices. Recall that the Fire TV 4-series line comes with models of 43, 50 and 55 inches with 4K UHD resolution, and with support for HDR10 and HLG.

The Fire TV Omni, meanwhile, repeat the sizes mentioned in the previous paragraph, but also offer larger variants: 65 and 75 inches . They also offer 4K UHD resolution with HDR10 and HLG; in addition to Dolby Digital Plus and support for Dolby Vision in the two largest versions.
