The new Galaxy Note 10 and Note 10+

The new Galaxy Note 10 and Note 10+ were presented by Samsung during an event organized on Wednesday 7 August in New York, in the United States. The two smartphones are the successors of the models presented last year, but compared to the previous ones the Note 10 has more in common with the Galaxy S10 presented a few months ago, while the Note 10+ maintains the tradition with a larger screen.

Samsung's Notes are usually among the smartphones most appreciated by professionals, looking for a good middle ground between a laptop and a tablet to be able to manage tasks, documents, emails and presentations. Over time, however, Samsung has worked to make its Notes interesting even for those who want a smartphone to use especially for leisure, keep in touch with their friends and to take pictures. The direct competitors of the new Note 10 are therefore equally powerful phones presented for a few months, such as Huawei's P30 Pro and OnePlus 7 Pro.

To offer something different from the competition, Samsung this time focused on the details, significantly revising the design of the Note 10 and Note 10+, using better quality materials and offering some typical features of its smartphones, such as the possibility of using a small stylus to write on the screen, and send various commands to the smartphone.

The Note 10 has a 6.3-inch screen with a resolution of 2280 x 1080 pixels; the RAM is 8 GB, while the memory capacity is 256 GB, without the possibility of expanding it with an external card. The Note 10+ instead has a 6.8-inch screen with a resolution of 3040 x 1440 pixels, 12 GB of RAM and a memory of up to 512 GB, which can in turn be extended using an external memory card. In both phones the screen is AMOLED, while the processor is from the Snapdragon 855 series.

The camera system on the Note 10 is very similar to that used on the Galaxy S10, and which has received quite positive reviews. On the back of the phone is a 16 megapixel camera with a wide angle lens and the 12 megapixel main camera. There is also a 12 megapixel camera for taking pictures with an optical zoom.

The front camera, the one for selfies, is inserted at the top of the screen, but it is less invasive than the one (already quite small) of the Galaxy S10. The screen has virtually no bezel and is curved on the sides of the phone, with more attention to finish than previous Notes.

As it had done for some models in recent years, Samsung has made the stylus (S Pen) retractable: when it is not needed it can be slipped inside the phone. The stylus can be used for drawing on the screen or for taking notes, with an automatic writing recognition system. Samsung has also added some sensors to its S Pen, which can be used as a kind of magic wand. By moving it in the air, you can control your Note remotely, for example to take pictures, or to send commands during presentations.

Samsung has also worked to improve Dex a lot, the option that allows you to connect your Note to a screen and have a kind of miniature computer at your disposal. In the new version, Dex can also work on computers with Windows and macOS, simplifying the management and transfer of files between devices. Samsung has collaborated with Microsoft to make the Notes communicate better with Windows 10, another function that could be of interest to professionals.

The new Galaxy Note 10 and Galaxy Note 10+ can be down ordered online on the Samsung website or from other suppliers (in this case the Post has an affiliation and gets a small share of the revenues) and will go on sale from the end of August. . The basic Galaxy Note 10 costs 979 euros, while the Galaxy Note 10+ starts at 1,129 euros.
